Hi Everyone,

I recently got a Japanese New DS XL and the Japanese version of AC as birthday present! Yay! I'm so excited to play because I know a little bit of Japanese. But I think this will help me learn a lot. I started the game, and finally got the map I want with town fruit I want (cherries). I'm so excited. I know most items available in the japanese games are available in the NA version as well. But i can't wait to participate in some of the japan local festivals that go on. :D

Omg, that's so awesome and definitely good for learning japanese. I might just save up for a japanese 3DS and get a japanese copy of the game too, it's really unfortunate we can't participate in japanese events unless we have a copy of the game. I think in the next ac, they should make the events worldwide, that way we'll never run out of things to do, although it might get a little annoying because Isabelle never lets you do any mayoral work on event days. Maybe you could invite people in via the train station to participate in some of Japanese local events? but if you'd rather not that's cool too. Just an idea. :) But congrats though! on the new town.

Yea. I would love to invite people! It's always fun to do events together!
Ugh.. i guess it's a bit slower on the japanese DS cuz everything is in japanese. but good for learning and practicing.

Happy Birthday and nice gift.
An online friend has the Japan game and invited the group over for the ogre mask. She understood some of what they were saying . It was fun scaring them and they spoke to use in English. I was going to get the Japan 3DS and game but have all the items now. Maybe I'll pick one up when the next game get release. Hoping.

Oh that sounds awesome! Hope you'll create a cool town and learn loads more from the Japanese language c:

If you wanna learn Japanese but keep your English game, there's always the international island. I get Japs join me all the time, usually trying to communicate despite my English name lol.

ugh, please don't use this term

also, I do really wish they'd give the option to switch to a kana (+kanji maybe pending space and all) keyboard (plus any other notable foreign language writing system that has a release for the game in whatever region said alphabet is notable in), without having said foreign copy of the game. even if the majority of the people won't have a use for it

it just seems weirdly backwards for a communication-based game to be limited in methods of communication based on whatever language is popular for the regional version you get

You know a lot of people use it as a simply shortened form of the word Japanese right? Like calling the British Brits. Nothing bad meant by it, lol.

and its still a racial slur, plus there's plenty of other ways to shorthand that aren't horribly offensive

even if not meant to be as such, there's still really no excuse for that sort of laziness

also, "Brits" far as to my knowledge isn't an offensive term (though it is a bit silly to me, due to Brit(t) being an actual name), so its also non-comparable

Lol, horribly offensive to whom? I've known plenty of Japanese folks and they take the word completely in their stride, like a Brit would being called a Brit. Outside of political correctness (which is a farce in itself) it's perfectly innocent, logical and factual. You really can't pull someone up for shortening a word, which is all I've done.

I could say it's lazy to not be using capital letters and full stops in your posts. I mean really.

can you not try to act like you're never wrong? a little humility never hurt, man. and don't derail from the point of the thread. take the arguing to private messaging if you're so hooked up on using slurs.

anyway, op, i'm excited for you! it's great that you can learn japanese while doing something you can enjoy, not to mention the japan-exclusive items you can get! :)

i know, right? i can't tell you how many times i met japanese speakers on the international island only to be devestated that i couldn't talk to them. i resorted to making a custom-design shirt with japanese characters reading "i can't type japanese," but even that might be too hard to understand since it's so small on the screen when i'm wearing it...

We were discussing whether it was a slur at all. It's extremely debatable. I haven't been unkind to anyone. I recognise you're fans of the Japanese, but there's absolutely no need to be so touchy. You make a bigger deal of it than they do themselves. Can you not see that?

I'm guessing this convo will be cut short by a mod anyway so I'll leave it there.

I am Japanese-American. The term is considered an ethnic slur to several of my family members.

Awww. I get everyone has their opinions. Let's try not to discuss this on the open forum, and make this a bigger issue.

Anyways, I started playing the game and found it a little slow at first. It's taking me a bit of time to become Mayor actually. Because i wasnt sure what isabell wanted. Then, i finally read very carefully, and realized she wanted me to go catch fish. Hahah.. so now i'm going to catch fish. I can't wait till i can start putting in pwps! i don't have plans yet for the town...

But it's called Aicchi.. It's an actual town in Japan.. but it's written as Aichi. I decided to add an extra small "tsu" or "c" in there because it sounds cute. :P

Actually, it can be. We are either Welsh, Scottish, Irish or English. Many people get offended by being called a Brit, putting everybody in one category. It still gets used though.
You can find offense in anything if you're that way inclined to begin with.

Anyway....I would love to have the Japanese version, just to experience something completely different.
I'm pretty terrible at languages though, I remember trying to learn German in school and I just struggled so much with it. I'd love to experience the Japanese holidays in AC at least :)

I love the name of your town. Looking forward to dreaming it when you unlock the dream suite. Have fun.

Congrats! I also have tobidase (Japanese version), and yeah, it's great to learn, but it's conversational casual Japanese you're going to see. Things like "dayo" for ending sentences instead of the traditional formal "desu". Little things like that. By the way, Setsubun is by FAR my favorite holiday- you'll see why on Feb 3!!
