Item limit?

I was creating my villager picture collection in a museum exhibit and the game wouldn't let me place anything.
I had about 50 tables and pictures in total. I'm not sure if it was just the museum exhibits. Is the item limit 50 in each room of your house, too? I just want to know.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure there is. Which is stupid, but it's got to be there I guess.

The limit is 48 items, unless I'm mistaken
