Is anyone else having trouble connecting to other towns after getting the new update?

My wifi connection to other towns has always been very hit-or-miss. Keeping my game updated and trying Nintendo's suggested fixes for the errors I got when I tried to connect to others helped somewhat, but I still got errors very frequently. Usually, they were about being unable to connect to the server, or unspecified errors telling me to try again later.

Now, with the most recent update, I've only been able to connect to one person. With everyone else, I get an error saying that I'm unable to connect to the partner's device. The most obvious case of this happening was with another user's town, because I was able to visit it recently and now I can't, even though the only thing that's changed has been the fact that I updated my system. For the record, I chose the option to update my game after updating my system, so both should be updated, and I've asked the people I've tried to connect to whether theirs were updated too.

Is this a common problem with the new update? It's being really annoying. :(

I hope this is the right place to post this :) I thought about posting it in the Nintendo Treehouse, but my problem is only with ACNL.

I haven't been getting this problem but this "can't connect to partner's device" has shown up on my Wii U. Have you tried running a connection test just in the off chance something screwed up?

I haven't gotten the update yet, but now I'm kind of glad I haven't. I'll wait and see if Nintendo has a fix for this 'problem'.
I do get the 'can't connect to partner's device' error in SSB4WiiU though, but it doesn't bother me much as I can usually just connect to another match and it works fine.

I haven't had the issue yet, but perhaps it's due to the other person not updating as well?

So far I've had no problems, but not that I think about it, it was before I updated. Awkward. I guess I'll find out haha

Thanks for the replies. I've tried checking my connection and everything, but my 3DS seems to be able to connect to the Internet just fine and it's working on my other games (like Pok?mon). I've had issues with ACNL's wifi features before that I've never had with other 3DS games. I wonder if it's possible that my cartridge I got might have been a defective one? I'm going to call my local Nintendo's costumer support tomorrow, just in case. :(

No, like I said in my post, I've asked the users I've tried to connect to if their games and systems were updated and they've all said yes. In the case of the person I tried to connect with and had been able to do that before, and of another user, I don't believe they'd lie about it. I don't really know what's up with that. :(

I had lots of issues before as well. It's just that before the update, there were some people I could connect to (and if I could connect to someone once, I could connect with them again) and the error messages were slightly different. Now it always happens and it's always that I can't connect to their device. :(

It really is awkward. I've searched the errors I used the get and the error I get now, and I know multiple people have gotten them for a while now. I wish Nintendo wouldn't rely on fixes like changing your router's settings (since I can do that at home, but this means I couldn't do it if I wanted to play online elsewhere) and would address the problem properly.
