Issues trading things between my two switches/islands

Hi ya'll!

I recently picked up AC again and started remodeling my islands, which led to me wanting to send some villagers over to my second island and vice versa. However I have not been able to successfully go from one island to the next? and I don't know why... PLEASE HELP

1. I have two switch consoles (an OG and an OLED) and two physical copies of ACNH
2. I dont know if I should be doing local or online - I tried doing online and it said I could only have one switch using the internet at the same time.
3. I have done this before, but I dont remember how i did it
4. When I tried doing local play, I got instant communication error when it was time to fly...
5. Do your switches have to be on the same time and date to do local play? I had time traveled on one island to get a villager out.

It's possible that your Switches don't have the same system update version.That's the only thing I can think of.

I thought I did do updates or checked updates… do you know if my different date or times would affect it? And if I should do local or online play?

From my experience (at least with online play), I've visited islands set to different dates and have had no problems. Nothing should be affected. (I have an OLED BTW)

I just tried local again - my switches right next to each other and still didn’t work

Maybe you can use an alternative character on one, and your main on another, if both mains are linked to the same account.

Weird…I’m not sure about the dates or versions being different but I could see how that might cause an issue

I have been myself in one and my partner’s profile… same thing. Both are on the same version 2.0.6, is it because of the same Nintendo account?

That is probably it. I’m not sure, but I don’t have NSO with my second switch, that’s why local works for me, at least that’s why I assumed.

I think it is. When I tried trading between StarGlow and Palm City, I used local play on one of my six alternative characters for StarGlow, and my main on Palm City. I also have shut one off the wi-fi, but the other stayed on wi-fi. It was working.

how do you shut one off from wifi? Mine just told me I couldn't do local play without turning off airplane mode? (my way of not being on wifi)

I cleared the internet settings off one and it still wouldn't work...

I guess it’s broken. Or at least one of them is broken due to aging. But if local play still works on other games, then I don’t know the problem.

Are you opening the connection when both switches are using the island representative? That's the only reason I can think of them not letting you use local play

nope - I was in my main town as myself and then I was on my second town as my partner's character
