I was plot resetting for Chester the other day and couldn't for the life of me get him to move in one row closer to the cliff on the side than this:

I ended up giving up and letting him plot there, but it bugs me because it's 1 row off from the house behind it. Is it impossible to get the house closer to the cliff on the side (on the snorlax patterns)? It shouldn't be cause there's one pattern space right?
The totoro patterns represent the space I should need around the house, so I'm confused as to why it couldn't get closer to the cliff.

He should be able to plot there, i think it just takes time to get em there

I gave up in the end because I had been at it for HOURS. He plotted in the spot in the screenie almost each time, which is why I was confused. When he moves out I'll try to get someone else in that spot... But I wanted to make sure it wad even possible.

well it looks possible to me seeming as he they have the space needed. I know some people spend days plot resetting

I'm def no expert on this - but if the house plot moved one space to the right then the game may think there was not enough space between the house & the cliff on the diagonal bit - you would only have one space at that point. I thought the game required 2 spaces all round.
From your post I can see you have thought of this as well, it would be my guess, if you have tried for hours and not been able to do it.

Its not a bad placement as it is.

There was definitely space, there's one space on every side. That said, I think where he landed is very nice, and even though it's not symmetrical I think it gives you plenty of space to actually get down to the entrance of his house and not feel cramped against the cliff.

I wanted to move it one row to the side guys, not one row down. ;)
Thanks a lot though. I also think it's possible I just don't know why he plotted in this same exact spot over and over again...
I'll try again for another villager, but I like Chester a lot so I don't know when that'll be haha.

I'm pretty sure that he could have moved there. There was a spot in my town that I was trying to get someone to move to but they'd just be to the left or right of it, in the end I gave up and put them somewhere completely different, but yesterday Rudy moved in the right position, but too far forward.

I'm not sure it's possible because villager houses need 2x squares all around them, so the bottom right corner is probably too near the cliff in the space you want.

You made the correct choice. Ultimately, these minor differences aren't worth it. What is worth more effort is what happened when I was getting Broffina to relocate to my third town Temps. On the south side of Temps are, going west to east, the houses of Sprinkle, Tom, Cube, Tia, and Marshal. I have a secondary human immediately neighboring east next door to Sprinkle. And I eventually plot-reset Broffina in between Tom and Cube. But, in my several attempts, I had some instances in which Broffina was going to place the front of her house directly on part of the path which deliberately connects, east to west, all these villagers' houses (plus my Mayor Alicia's house the farthest east). I wanted Broffina next door to Sprinkle, before my secondary human was created, and those attempts were Broffina placing part of her house on the path. I eventually decided "Animal Crossing: New Leaf" was screwed up with this part of the game's design; and I plot-reset her, and opted for her location to be, in between Tom and Cube. Broffina is fine there. And, with too much of time wasted on that effort, I'm glad I made an alternative choice and gave it up. And, you should know, I don't think about this whenever I'm playing Temps in "Animal Crossing: New Leaf."

Really? I'm pretty sure they need x1 square around them considering I have villager houses that are x2 squares apart, therefore x1 each. Maybe the front needs x2 though cause of the door space, good point. In which case the placement I want is impossible.

Lmfao trying to earn TBTs are we.
But you're right, I can't be bothered to be super picky and a control freak with this game.
That's not what it's about.

I don't think it's possible.
The house plot is 3x4, not 3x3.

Darnit I think you're right. The front of the house needs x2 surrounding space, I just checked after it was mentioned a couple of times here.
Therefore I would be missing x1 space in the bottom right corner.
Guess the house is staying there.

Thanks everyone!
