Is there any danger with gifting the villagers outfits? I really want to give my villagers clothes and head accessories to wear but I’m afraid I’m going to ruin their houses. If I give a villager clothing while they’re outside and they immediately change into it, is there a risk of them later putting it into their house and ruining their original furniture?

They can definitely put on their clothes and display them in their house later. I had this happen with one of my old villagers, he wore it the day I gifted the item, the next day it was in his home.
There are a few villagers that have no spots in their houses where they can place clothes, and those are technically safe to gift. The vast majority will have a chance of putting it on display somewhere though.

Thanks for confirming that! Guess I’ll have to go without the cute outfits then, because I cherish their houses too much
