Is there a maximum amount of things you can display in one room?

The game will not allow me to display anymore things in one room even when there is enough space to display it. I guess there is amximum number of things per room? Can anyone confirm?

It is 48. I believe nintendo done this solely to make my Gyroid infested museum top floor need 3 rooms instead of 2. xP

Well I just crammed 42 items into a 6x6 room and it was fine. (other than I couldn't walk in it anymore) So pretty sure the limit is 48 regardless of room size.

do double items (like a chest of drawers) count as 2 items or 1?

I've hit the limit exactly in my fully upgraded kitchen room, I could count sometime if anyone really needs the number
