Is there a general rule to items that can and cannot be catalogued?

I read through the list and at first I thought they were all event items that cannot be re-ordered which I suppose would make sense, however then it digresses and goes as far as putting sets down that you are unable to re-order such as the mermaid set and balloon set. Is there a rhyme or reason to this, or is it just completely random this list?

Its annoying because every item I pick up now I have to second guess if its re-orderable before I sell or whatever.

Thanks guys.

I've been playing since February and I still sometimes have trouble with orderable and re-orderable items. The one thing that's helped me is www.moridb.com It's an item database and it tells you where you get the item from, if it's re-orderable or not and its pricepoint (Nook's).

You do have to keep second guessing for a while, unfortunately. It gets easier, but there's no science to it. Anything from the Island or Gracie or Sahara cannot be reordered. Most of the event items can't be reordered - though the Spooky and Jingle that you originally buy at Nooks can be. Most Gulliver items can be reordered. And the DLCs come in both varieties. Some can be ordered, but certainly not all....

Try haunting the buying threads in the TBT Marketplace or ReTail that are labeled non-reorderables. It will help you recognize the names of those items should you run across them. There's just nothing worse than looking at an item in your Nook Catalog and realizing that even though you must have had it at one time you are not going to be able to reorder it.

If you create an account, you can keep a list there of the non-reorderable items you still need. As the list gets shorter, it will be easier to remember without having to check all the time.

Thanks for your help guys, its unfortunate that the catalogue system is so hit or miss. I will take on your advice however and keep my eye out.

Yes, I definitely recommend this as well. I've done and it's helped me out loads :D

Oh, but I think it's just a small part of what has kept the game fun. These are the items that finally brought me to the online community - luckily I had most of the ones I could get in game, and that helped me trade and buy the European and Asian items I could never have gotten otherwise. Finding out you sold a non-reorderable is kind of like ending up in jail in monopoly, lol. It feels so good when you reacquire the item and safely store it away!

I have to say it's annoying as anything having a catalog where you can't order things from it- it's like what's the point when I can only order certain items??

Well, I guess it's because one goal for a lot of people is to get that catalogue as complete as possible. So it's nice to have a record of what you have "accomplished" in the way of getting your hands on certain items, even if they weren't items you wanted to keep. In that sense, I appreciate being able to see at Nooks which items I still need to collect. And I do think it adds some kind of "strategy" to the game that not every item is reorderable. Are you more annoyed that the catalogue lists the non-reorderables or are you annoyed just that non-reorderables exist at all?

The 'sprinkler' in the shop surprised me, can't understand why that item is unorderable, weird.

Yes, I never understood the sprinkler and lawn mower either. There's a thread here that says you can't put the sprinkler up in ReTail, though I never tried. There are also 5 stationery papers that you might get in the mail as a gift from a villager that can't be reordered. So if you see museum, gallery, snowman, post office and Halloween paper, hold onto them!

I just remember unorderables as anything you get from something special, like events, DLC, special NPCs. The mermaid set and the balloon set seem less random once you remember that the mermaid set is from the Island and the balloon set is the one you can get from balloons.

I think the only way to get unorderables that would be confusing is when villagers give them to you.

Of course, if you can't remember where an item is from, that won't work and it's best to check the catalogue.
