Is the NFC Reader Region Locked?

I've been holding out hope for the New 3DS XL Special Edition in NA but it seems like we are out of luck. I have an Australian 3DS and I was only going to buy a US 3DS if the special one was released...

Now I'm wondering, does anyone know if the NFC Reader be region locked?

You really should keep looking out for the New Nintendo 3DS XL bundle. We still have an entire month before the game launches; Nintendo could possibly confirm a release until then
