It never used to bother me before, but recently, I find that originality is SUPER crucial to me. Like, if I get a villager who isn't wearing their original shirt (unless the clothing change suits them) or their house is completely loaded with fish and bugs, I almost feel like I can't accept the villager. Erik is so unoriginal it's driving me mad, but I love him too much to let him go!

So is originality important to you, and if so, how so? What are your boundaries?

Not usually. I will be sad if Diana, Fauna, or Zucker change shirts though.

i dont really care much. i mean they change stuff all the time just while playing it anyways.
since i think you mean from trades?

Yes I mean from trades. When playing I try to avoid giving them fish and bugs so their cute lil houses are preserved. Clothing is the worst though because you can always see it.

I don't care at all how my villager houses look like. If it were only bugs & fishes I can see how it can bother you, but it's fixable.
Their clothing only bothers me if it destroys their look. But I would get used to it, and they to change them too from time to time.
Personally, I think when my villager get clothes and furniture from me and other villager, they feel more like a part of my town.
But then again, I'm not into buying/trading for villager - so I guess I don't have any extreme negative experiences with that.

I used to not care that much, but I reset to get the villagers I have on my own. It's not to say that I won't ever adopt a new villager, but I like that they've always been Kinfolk residents :>

I don't mind different clothes but I do care about the houses. Replacing bugs and fishes is very difficult and I opt to keep their houses default unless I plan on customizing them.

Though the villagers I trade are kept as close to original as possible.

to an extent, yes
idc if just their shirt is different or they switched their regal clock to a classic clock but it really irks me when traders say only their catchphrase changed or something and their house is full of bugs

i prefer original characters, unless i get them from family or someone i know personally. i hate when i get a villager with horrible phrases and clothes and their houses are full of bugs or fish alike.. i hate that. it ruins it for me because they never want to part with their bugs and fish. clothes can be changed, and i change them in my towns because that's fine with me, but i usually deny my villager's bugs and stuff... : / maybe ONE if the bug they ask for is pretty.. but that's it.

Not even slightly. I always trade stuff with my villagers, and try to give them nice things I feel suit them. "Maintaining originality" to me, sounds like a really boring way of cutting off half of interacting with your villagers. I don't want them to be overloaded with fish and bugs (though a pet or two is fine), and if they ask for something I think is terrible for them I'll usually say no, but beyond that I can't honestly say I give two fiddlesticks about originality.

I won't accept unoriginal villagers, it bothers the hell out of me, too. I'm not sure why, it just does, and I keep villagers 100% original. It might be my OCD, lmao.

Usually it doesn't matter to me, but when villagers change their houses too much it kind of grates on me. One example is Katt. Her house originally looked like a recording studio, now it looks like she's going for an old west theme. It just doesn't suit her.

I prefer my villagers to be mostly original, it bothers me when I see my villagers walking around with shirts that don't match their appearance.

While it might bug me a bit if the unoriginal aspects of a villager are really unsuited, I don't mind it that much. Sometimes, I think unoriginality can add a lot of character and unique charm. It can be nice to see the previous player's mark. Plus, playing without changing villagers gets really boring so I wouldn't blame them at all for it. Heck, sometimes even original stuff doesn't make that much sense. I always thought it was odd how Kidd's original shirt is a waistcoat, but his home is sloppy.

Nah, I don't really care. It's impossible to keep them original in your own town, so why expect someone else to do it? Kyle was wearing the god-forsaken white Able Sisters shirt and was missing a piece of furniture when I got him but I love him too much and was far too happy to be bothered by that. Same with most of my villagers. Actually I think the only 100% original villager I got from another person was Phil.

I don't care about their homes and clothes. It's almost impossible to keep them original, anyway. Even if you don't give your villagers new furniture or clothes, the other villagers will. I might give one small fish or butterfly if they ask for one, but no more than that. I don't like when their homes are filled with fish and bugs. I also won't give or sell them any fossils. One thing I refuse to do, though, is take a villager from someone else's town. I might not be able to avoid Streetpass move-ins (or transfers from my other town) all together, but I want my villagers to come to my town on their own. I don't think it's wrong to get villagers from other people; it's just not my thing.

Yes! Everything but their house is important, because I plan to decorate their houses since I don't have Happy Home Designer.

It depends on the villager. I choose clothing I think they will look good in not necessarily original. When Roscoe moved into Eden, he had the sleek series then it went to hell. He started selling off his furniture or it just disappeared. I kept sending him the sleek furniture with the Holstein customization. Eventually, I was able to restore his house. Erik sold his guitar, I bought it back and sent it to him. His house remains original. Katt's original house is a train wreck, I am working to make it nicer.
