Recently restarted my town. Can't find anywhere to join with other new leaf players unfortunately :( Has it really fell off since the release of NH?

Its pretty dead.
But considering its age and that it's not the most recent in its franchise, I'd say its in surprisingly good shape.

It really depends on what you're after.
You wont find fast turn around times on wanting to buy items or things. Or really much in the way of trading villagers.

But there are some people here who are still dedicated to the game and will help and play with you where they can.

So if you're in need of good turnip prices, or help getting hold of different fruits, I have no doubts you will be able to get that here :)

Like @Moritz said it’s not as popular as it once was but there’s still some active players, even here on the forums. The New Leaf trading area has a slower response time but if you’re looking for items it might still be worth a shot to post about it there!

I still play my towns from time to time but I’m not as active with them as I am New Horizons. If you need some fruit or anything though I’m sure if you post you’ll get some help 🥰

I should also add that while I cant promise to be around every time, and I don't extend my offer to be every single plot (lol), I do have every amiibo so hit me up if you want a certain villager in your town.
I can do it for you with no worries at all.
Its literally just a 10 minute process

I'll be honest, I poured hours into my file, but when I opened up my game recently the 3DS graphics just aged so, so bad. I wouldn't be surprised if other people got turned off by that too.

New leaf vs new horizons gives us an awkward place
New horizons is obviously the superior game in every way. Apart from...
New leaf has things like brewsters, and an island of minigames. It has more shop upgrades and a place to buy shrubs without having to wait 2 weeks into a season to get them.

But New Leaf has villagers move out randomly, they move in over your blue roses, rocks that ruin your town design. Rivers that just get in your way.
Super inconvenient town design. A longer version of town progression, but at this point both would be maxed out now.
However lots of furniture sets.

Both games have their reasons to play.

Its a strange situation where New Leaf has stuff going on that New Horizons just not does. And really could do with.
But New Horizons has so much going for it that it makes New Leaf seem so archaic.

If new horizons got a bit more interaction with villagers, more upgrades to work towards, and mini games to play with friends. Then new leaf would be just meh.
But until then, both have their reasons to play

dont forget nh has only a little over half the amount of furniture nl has

Also badges

I think compared to new leaf on release and new horizons it's pretty on par.
It was the welcome amiibo update that changed that.
And since that came a few years down the line there is lots of time to change that.
(Not that I think they will. Who knows what they will do. Welcome amiibo was super random to me)

And as for badges, we have that now in nook stamps, and we have a lot more of them.
But I do really miss the one, and I don't recall if it was badge only or just items sent to you, but the one for having bells in your bank.
It made making bells more worth while when you had nothing to buy

I personally just started a new town like a month ago and I've been playing daily since then. if you need fruit or some kinda furniture or a villager you could always ask me or Siobhan123 :)

I took a break from NL when NH came out. I played for a little while recently and felt a little lost but it was fun.

I never did any online stuff apart from one trade when I made this account. Might be fun to start again

Oh the online part of New Leaf is so lovely! Trading items may have slowed down a bit but there’s also games you can play with people in New Leaf that are always fun. I’m terrible at them lol but I like playing them with friends. 🥰

This is honestly how I feel. New Horizons has little features that make me prefer it. I like how villagers ask you permission before moving. This is a feature that, if it were removed, I’d be very upset. I think since this particular feature was added, it should stay. New Leaf was a great game, but the graphics just seem so off from New Horizons, but that’s what you’d expect.

Agreed. I hate to be that way but I'm a visual person so things like graphics and art style matters to me. Unfortunately, it's really hard for me to go back to NL even though it has things that are better than NH.

By comparison to other games of its age, it is doing very well but when compared to New Horizons, yeah it is pretty much dead. There are so many helpful people on the forums who can help you trade for villagers and items you want and others who will visit and go to kappn's island if that is what you are wanting to do. I still play New Leaf regularly alongside Wild World and New Horizons as I don't find NH particularly fun for me personally (all a matter of personal preference though). Everything has definitely slowed down so I guess it depends on what you are looking to do with online play (trade, hang-out etc). Trading is currently the easiest thing to do atm as there are still some lovely users running shops and services for those still playing.

definitely not. it’s just hard to find english-speaking active online users.

I don't play NH at all, only NL. But yes, I feel there are way fewer people than there used to be. It's a little sad, but I mean, things change and age, so it's understandable that it fell off.

I play all the AC games weekly but NL and CF daily!! To me its not but to many yes. Many people have moved on but there are some active people here and there! Recently there have been a few new acnl players on the forums!! I hope that you can find some new friends!! <3
