Is my villager hacked?

Hi! I got Cyd awhile back with a person on here. It was a smooth process and the person was pleasant. I only became worried when I noticed Cyd’s house is not what it’s supposed to look like. The wallpaper and floors are different.

Could this be the result of the villager being modified or hacked? I ask because I’ve heard having hacked villagers can led to your save file corrupting and that would devastate me.

Did you get the villager from another player? If so, does it look like a DIY house? Those with a DIY house (starting villager or one you build a house for) will look different. If it doesn't look like a DIY house or the regular house, then it might be.

It wouldn‘t look like DIY since that goes away when they are traded. I guess post pictures and maybe someone can help?

My Cyd’s house looks just like this, items wise. The wallpaper and flooring are not what is pictured.

I’ve never played ac besides new horizons but my sister and I both found sherb while island hopping, her sherb has wooden wallpaper/flooring and mine has this weird purple wallpaper/flooring
maybe they can be different?? idk lmao

That is a bit weird, but maybe they can differ a bit (? idk). I'll check and see what my Cyd's house looks like tomorrow!
Have you tried asking the person you got him from about it? Like don't automatically assume that they did or accuse them, just tell them you're a bit concerned about it and see if they know anything about it.

Her Sherb was probably one of her first five, while yours has the correct wallpaper/flooring (though I think the "first five" lazy has a dirt floor, so maybe that's wrong).

Villager Wallpaper

I found this thread on Reddit where some players said that the same thing happened to them but nobody really had any answers.It's possible that it's a hack but it also could be the reverse of the villager exterior glitch.That glitch involved adopted villagers that had their actual house interior but retained the house exterior of the villager they replaced.Did you TT backwards after you adopted Cyd?

I think if the game resets wallpaper and flooring when a villager is traded normally (which I've observed), it will probably do the same for a villager who has had their house modded and then traded too, so I don't think your villager is glitched.

I got Mac from a friend of my son's (inadvertently) on whose island he was a DIY villager, and the only thing he retained from his original island was some clothes that he was given by them (Mac actually told me that they gave him the clothes). Everything else he had was default Mac.

When I'm looking at the wiki pages for villagers, I noticed that I have to be careful not to confuse the New Leaf version of the villagers house with the New Horizons version (they usually show both, and sometimes they are different). Is there a chance that this has happened to you?

Otherwise, based on my (limited) experience I don't know how your villager would have gotten non-standard wallpaper and flooring, but I don't think anything nefarious went on. I'm not an expert in how Animal Crossing New Horizons stores its data, but I have modded game saves in the past (New Leaf's, for one), and my impression is that when villagers are transferred from one New Horizons game to another most of the customization is thrown out and the characters are largely default. There should be no way for a modded character file to avoid the same treatment.

Other players will have had different experiences than me, and I know that there are more knowledgeable modders out there (there is no way I'm going to risk bricking my Switch just to give myself blue roses), so I might be wrong, but based on my own experiences I don't think that your villager is glitched. But you *are* stuck with whatever wallpaper and flooring they have right now.

This Cyd might have been around back when the villager trading glitch was still around. If I recall correctly there was one glitch which made a villager that would be forced out by the Amiibo "inherit" the Amiibo villager's wallpaper/flooring.

Thanks for the answers, everyone! Based on all the info you’ve given and what I remember from the person I got Cyd from, he might just be a villager trading glitch (since I remember them saying something about using Amiibos).

I don’t TT and he filled an empty plot, so that’s the only explanation!
