Well if you have his amiibo card (or can trade/buy off ebay for it) you could get him into your town that way - have to wait till Nov tho to do it. (acnl update).

On an original 3ds/3ds xl players are going to have to buy a reader. A new 3ds/new 3ds XL can read cards/figures direct.
If you are in the US those readers are on offer or cheap?

I think now is the time to get ready, cos as the hype increases & Nov gets closer, things are going to go up in price.
