Is it worth it to buy another switch and copy of ACNH

If you asked me this question about a month ago, I would have said "Yes, if I had the money". Now though, I have plenty enough to do on just the one island, where I have an alternate character (who I don't even bother playing with some days, depending on the special NPC).

I didn’t buy a second switch for ACNH but I did buy a second copy. Agreeing with @Vrisnem that I don’t play the second one as much. It’s mainly just a cycle town for amiibos now but I don’t have regrets in buying a second copy! I like having the option of having 20(!) villagers but it’s so hard trying to terraform & decorate 2 islands 😣

I probably would never do this. Unless I was given a free switch I probably can't justify having a second one. My creativity wouldn't really make any big changes with a second island.

Dude thank you for the dose of reality for me. I've been frustrated and I want to buy a lite for a second island, but in all honesty I don't think I'd actually go too crazy and utilize the second island as much as others. I'd probably just end up staring at the blank town. I do hope they change the capabilities to let multiple game files exist on a switch, maybe with different accounts or something.

It’s always going to be heavily subjective on you as a player for whether it is worth it for you.
I have one switch, one switch lite, and two game copies. I would say it’s worth it for me, my playstyle, and the amount of enjoyment I get from the games.

I wouldn’t recommend it if someone may be in a less than ideal financial situation but, if finances aren’t a factor, then there’s really no reason it’s a problem if it’s a hobby you really enjoy. You do you as they say.

I will say in terms of a lite after my regular switch, I do like having the lite which is more travel efficient. My AC switch is my baby so it never leaves home.

To be honest I wouldn't do it if it's only for a second island. It's quite expensive and there's a big chance you're not going full into it like on your 1st island which will always stay special. That's also a lot of money for just one game. What if you feel done with AC and only pick it up when there are some new updates? It will just be collecting dust for most of the time because you have your main switch I guess. Had this with New Leaf and the 3DS although I've won a few 3DS's and got 2 copies of Animal Crossing: New Leaf for free with Nintendo points. (ah the good old days...). Never really cared for the 2nd island and used it mostly to restart and time travel to find certain villagers for my main game :)

BUT if you have a regular Switch now, you have to travel a lot and want a more on-the-go handheld and not take the big regular switch with you a Switch Lite is not a bad investment. I know there are quite a few people who prefer a Switch Lite when traveling to school/work or on holiday (for as much as that is possible nowadays) :)

Happy B-day. Personally I would NOT get another switch for another island. It's a lot of redundancy for just one game.

As the game stands right now, I probably would not get another switch just to have another island. I do love the game, but it just doesn't have enough in it for me to justify spending that much money on another switch.

Personally that's a lot of money that could be thrown in to something more useful down the line. I got a second cartridge of NL back in the day and barely touched it. I couldn't do two towns at once and fully commit to either of them. Some people can manage two towns happily though so it depends on you.

Still, I'd maybe sit on it for a few weeks to avoid making an impulse decision. I've done that a bunch and later I found I didn't even want that item anymore. Saved me lots!

As someone who had 5 New Leaf towns (and a number of 3DS' to play them on, just because), I say GO FOR IT!
I have two New Horizons islands, and therefore two Switches. The first was a gift I'd had for a long time, and I bought myself the AC-themed one. It's been great for farming DIYs and items for myself and the one friend I play with regularly. I will say though that I heavily theme my islands, so having two was a must for me--they'll be completely different! If you think your two islands might wind up being so similar to one another that it won't be that fun to have an extra, then maybe don't.

I did, partially because the Lites are cute and I wanted one for when I don't feel like hauling my full system, and partially because I wanted a second island. It's really helped to keep me interested in the game - I get 20 villagers, two islands to decorate, and they're in different seasons, so I feel like there's always something for me to do. If I get bored on one island, I move to the other. That said, I wish I didn't have to have a second Switch for it. The one island per Switch limitation really sucks :(

If you buy a physical copy of the game can you have another island?

Do you mean a physical copy with 2 switches ? Or just a physical copy with 1 switch?

If it’s 2 switches then yeah, you can have another island with 1 game but you can’t trade between switches. For 1 switch, no ): the island is tied to the switch
