Having three game cards, it's hard to keep track of which is which.Sure, I could just never take them out of the system, but I have other games I like to play occasionally, plus I have 3 game cards but only 2 3Ds', so I have to switch them out. So I was wondering if it was safe to write the name of the towns on the AcNL labels on the cartridges (not on the actual cartridge, just the label) so I could tell which is which? Or will that mess the game up and/or make the cartridge hard to read for the 3Ds?

This is what I have a problem with too.
Do you still have the cases the games came in? If so, you can write the town names on the boxes with a Sharpie.
So each case will have a town name on it, and you know which cartridge to put in what box.
Quick fix! :D

Writing on the label is fine. It's just that - a label, a sticker on a plastic case. All the interesting bits, like the memory that hold the data of your precious towns, is hidden within.

The 3DS doesn't mind, it checks what kind of cartridge you put in simply by sending signals to the cartridge which then reports back to say what's in it, not by some kind of advanced label reader. (:

By all means, go ahead!

It's safe, but if you still have the game cases you can also write on those if you feel uncomfortable.
