hello! so i'm currently learning German (native English speaker) and i thought a great way to practice my reading skills and vocab etc. would be to switch the language in animal crossing to German, but i'm wondering if this is possible? has anyone tried this before? i haven't yet tried it because i don't want it to be locked on to just one language forever or something - any help would be greatly appreciated! thank you ^^

I think you can, you just need to change the language through your settings on your 3DS. :)

I'm 95% sure you can't.
Dialogues and languages are programmed right into the cartridge, similar to how some games are region-locked.

I don't think so, I have seen a lot of English people playing japenese ACs and playing in Japenese.

You are able to change languages in the 3DS Pokemon games. But not sure about New Leaf.

But if your English/European I think you can buy a German copy and that would work?
:3

They have a Japanese 3DS and japanese cartridge.

That's because sometimes multiple languages are pre-programmed into the cartridge.
For example, the Canadian version of Pokemon XY comes with both french and english.

ACNL is region locked, like most games.
I think the German version would only work on an EU 3ds.

If you just buy a German cartridge without an EU 3DS, you would just waste your money.

You can switch languages as often as you`d want to, if your 3ds gives you the options in the settings, and if the specific game supports the language (is translated). So I can switch between all the european languages for Animal Crossing New Leaf when using my EU 3DS and ACNL cartridge. However the 3ds Pokemon games support every language and you can choose between all the languages before you start a game, but without starting a new game you can`t switch to another language.

Yeah that's why I said EU.
XD. And yes I know that, but they are region locked so it wouldn't work anyway

I played ACNL in French before when I was taking French classes, so I know you can change it to French. I'm sure Spanish is the other language that's also available, not including English obviously. However, I don't think German is available unless you have a EU 3ds so it wouldn't be possible unfortunately which really sucks :c

Also EU cartridge can only be played on an EU 3ds same as how only JP cartridge can only be played on a JP 3ds, so yeah as Usagi-mom says, it would be a waste of money if you don't buy both.

Ohh I wanna learn another language xD
I might try it then :P
As long as I can change it back and forth
