I am :).
I am working on studying Hiragana, which is the Japanese alphabet and syllables. After that I'll be working on studying Kanji and then Katakana. I do not recommend anyone to use Romanji, as it can mess up your pronunciation, it's best to start off learning the Japanese characters instead.
So, I am almost done with Hiragana and will be starting Kanji soon. I am doing this by myself, without any classes or anything. Is anyone else learning/wants to or planning to learn Japanese? Share your experiances :)

Shouldn't you also learn Katakana first before learning Kanji? That's what I did. I can only identify certain kanji because I studied a book of some really commonly used kanji. The only problem I have is sentence structure and how they are read in conjuction with different kanji. :9

Kanji and Katakana can be switched around a bit, depending on what you want to learn. I prefer learning Kanji first as Katakana is the alphabet for foreign words and isn't used as oftan in Japan, but I suppose you could learn it either way.

I saw it often enough for me to want to learn it before moving on to advanced kanji and such. x)

I'm learning Japanese :3 I've learned Hiragana and Katakana. I plan on learning Kanji once I've gotten good at the speaking/listening. I learned Hiragana in an hour (literally) because I used this ap which made it SO easy to remember.

Name of app, please? I've been wanting to learn Japanese for a long time.

I started learning some last year.. but I dunno I stopped. I'd love to pick it up sometime again though.

I want to. I have notebooks full of the characters, but I only remember ki because it looks like a tree on a hill.

Am I the only one who learns Japanese words by watching Anime? I would love to learn more :c

i dont know a single word of japanese :?

i might just try teaching myself through youtube videos but im not that desperate to learn

I took Japanese for a few semesters. I remember in the first semester, I studied hiragana, katakana, and some kanji. Plus other typical stuff you'd expect from a language class. I can read hiragana/katakana just fine, but there's so much kanji to memorize. It's a tough language and the conjugations + grammar can be confusing as well. Personally if I run across some kanji I don't recognize, I use rikaichan and a dictionary app on my phone. It helps a lot. Having Japanese friends can be helpful too, if they're willing to help you improve by talking to you in the language and other stuff. :)

I've kinda studied independently for a while XD I have friends from Japan who talk to me sometimes. I will admit, I think it's kinda silly how people think they can learn an entire language from watching Tv... I just imagine some of these people going around and saying
"ARENT I SOOOOO KAWAIII DESU !? MEOW"
If you like the language you should just learn it in a way that makes sense (^ν^)

Well I mean like. I learned Japanese when I was a toddler, if that counts. Currently learning Italian, though.

You mean you don't think I'm kawaii desu sugoi? Life shattered.

learn hiragana and katakana first. kanji is so hard like srsly just learn the easier ones first. once you know those you still need to know kanji, but you'll be able to ready basic hiragana and katakana words. ive been takin japanese classes for a little over a year, but ive been slacking
