Is anyone else having a hard time keeping up with the community..

Except NMTs could not nor cannot be duplicated.
With a hacked system you can basically have a NMT printer...
That happening in the TBT community is pretty slim, but rampant on places like ebay where people will spend real money for the items.

I would also like to add that I think the overall high prices of NMTs across the board currently are due to people using the NMTs to search on the islands to get their dreamies, which include Raymond often on these lists. I've seen several posts on Facebook (I have problems with some people on Facebook villager trading, they try and scam the new people, and complain when they don't get their way imo...) aggressively stating stuff like:
"I AM ONLY ACCEPTING OFFERS FOR MY VILLAGER IF YOU HAVE (insert new and/or popular villager here, usually it's Raymond) OTHERWISE I WILL VOID THIS VILLAGER IF NO ONE OFFERS ME (insert new and/or popular villager here)"
or
"only DM if you have (insert new and/or popular villager here) or at least (insanely high number) NMTs so I can go find them myself on the islands, will be voiding if I don't get any acceptable offers"

I just discovered the mechanics behind the mystery island RNG (check my sig for the thread), and I would think that the mystery islands were not intended to be used hundreds and hundreds of times in search of that 1 specific villager. I think Nintendo might have meant for them to provide more of a variety of options to people as the animal species (not specific villagers) all have the same chance of appearing on them. This is a huge improvement over previous games when random was basically the inevitable thing to happen if you didn't adopt from someone else... It allows the user some degree of choice, but I don't think they intended or wanted people to abuse the islands in search of Raymond or any 1 specific villager for that matter... They're meant to be used for resources, a fun trip to get away from your island, and maybe invite a villager too, but not to grind them for a business cat :(
... i am that one person who is going to grind the islands for that one specific villager. Lmao All my other dreamies I have amiibo for or I can get amiibo for. ^^;

I think with cycling a villager out taking longer in NH than it did in NL (... i ran a cycle town in new leaf, it was shorter before someone wanted to move in NL...) makes people go even more crazed when dreamie hunting on islands.
Since you have maybe 2 days max before a random moves into your town?
Then about 2 weeks before someone will want to move again from your town naturally...
I could see that causing some panic, people hoarding tickets, and all the like...

I see...
Then I wish you good luck in your hunt.
This thread may be good to look at, it offers another strategy than mystery islands. You can also check out my thread (in my signature) for the exact info on mystery islands and decide which one gives you a higher chance for that one dreamie.

Yup there's definitely a panic, hopefully the prices will die down eventually, hopefully sooner rather than later.

It blows me away to see how the community has turned greedy. I remember in new leaf days, people would give away popular villagers no strings attached. Sure some would charge a lot for them, but not to the extent they are now. Burns my hope of finding a villager like Judy for a reasonable price. Maybe when or if she gets an amiibo card, I’ll try getting her. But as of now, I’ll pray she randomly moves in or campsite.

Well I tt too, and btw if you tt it will decrease your turnip prices, i've never seen a better price than 110 because of this, but I understand what you mean
That's news to me. I've TT'ed every Sunday night and gotten 600+ for turnip prices the last 3 weeks.

He's cool and all, but personally I don't think I'm going to put in the crazy amount of effort to get him. I'm just gonna wait for him to come naturally to me but I'm sure as heck not going into those auctions.

Yeah I’ve given up on auctions. I’m just gonna use the tickets to go on random island tours. I found Ketchup today to fill my empty plot and she’s cute so I don’t mind having her on my island for a bit

There are still people out there who are doing giveaways for the popular villagers so it’s not all bad. Thank god for all the real people out there 👏 it’s just harder to get these villagers since the sales price is so high so it cuts down on chances unfortunately

Yeah the community has gone crazy... the prices are new leaf were so much better now everything is so expensive. Nmt is sold for 30 tbt or like 200k bells per ticket! It’s crazy and unless you’ve spent loads of money or spent ages on your phone or switch which I can’t do you can’t get enough money to find your dreamies whereas on new leaf you could find them and they were affordable. I feel like people are less generous or people are just fitting in with the standard rates that are extremely high🙈

This is why the whole "let's sell the farm for a villager" looks even more bizarre.

People are throwing insane amounts of NMTs away trying to get a villager that - even if they're not summoned via amiibo - can simply never show up because of all the glitches present in the game.

I have someone who's willing to trade a few villagers with me as soon as the situation gets fixed (as the person in question has the amiibo of 3 out of 4 villagers I want), free of charge, and even if I could risk trading now, I wouldn't do it, because it could potentially glitch their game and my game as well.

Imagine people paying real money on eBay for NMTs just to win an auction for a villager that comes and then glitches the plot?
Amiibos don’t glitch your own plot, only if you tried to trade them off.

Yeah, don't participate in the greed. Ignore them. There are plenty of great villagers you can meet on excursions, just pick one you like the look of.

It's because of players and the market that OP described that whenever I get a popular villager (that I don't want personally, which aren't many) I just give them away to someone

I will not contribute to the weird villager trafficking simulator that the fandom has turned this sweet, innocent game into.

Campsite method will likely work better for you then, if you have enough amiibo cards, you can just force villagers to move out until you have none of the personality type you're searching for (for highest chances, have 1 of each of the other personalities), constantly reroll your campsite (if you're not getting villagers, it's because you travelled forward then went backwards, you have to go past the furthest date that you've travelled to). My friend got raymond in like 7 campers, I got Marshal as my 14th.
