So.....I was bored and started watching some piano and guitar videos....
I've never been the one who's interested in playing intstruments, but I have played the piano before. I usually quit though, and I did. I'm not to good with learning notes and all that stuff you need to know to play an instrument. :P But, lately I have been getting into guitar and piano again. Do you guys play any instruments? Which do you think is better, guitar or piano? And I know it's whatever I like best, but I'm interested in both, so tell me what you think.

Any tips for learning to play instruments? I usually can't concentrate or take in half of whatever I'm being taught when it comes to music. =/

Oh, and I played the piano for about 3 months, and I've never played the guitar before, but my cousin and uncle play it. =]

Or...are there any other instruments you guys recommend?

I play the flute and my advice is....AIR AND FAST FINGERS :gyroidconfused:
and practicing of course.....it takes dedication to play an instrument

^^What's so funny? xD NVM...:P
Ha, been there done that. 4th grade band, didn't last 2 months.
Scratch the trumpet, I really dislike it...xD

Why does this always happen to me? There's a fricken ad with a recorder right below this topic...xDDD
No...no Trumpet!!! xD
Flute? Hmm.....I've never considered it, but it looks hard...
what about the clarinet?
Wait, I asked about piano and guitar, I'm slowly merging off that, lets get back to piano and guitar. xD

Yes i like it :)
Its good, fun and its becomes easier as you get use to it :D
on friday night I went to my school's christmas concert which I was performing in and myself and my band did a song :P

Been playing since the age of 12 and Im 15 now and yes I would recommend it :).
Get lessons that helped me because if you teach yourself it will take longer

Before you start, ask yourself -- do you really want to get good at your instrument of choice? If so, you're gonna have to make the distinction between "playing" an instrument, and playing it.

For starters, it's really really tough to learn without a teacher. You could develop all sorts of bad habits and nobody will be able to correct you. It's much, much tougher to relearn something than to learn it correctly the first way.

Ya I agree....for the first three years of me playing the flute, I developed a nasty finger position, and my band instructor just told me about it a few months ago, so now I have to change my entire technique of fingering the notes.....its pretty tough >.>

When I get into something I don't leave it. I'm into it. I think music is interesting, but I'm just not sure which instrument would suit me best. The only reason I left piano lessons after the 3rd month was because I really didn't understand anything, the teacher wasn't really teaching me much......but I was the best in my class, which is so ironic. xD

I played trumpet for eight years, but I'm going to try and learn piano over break.

I'd recommend you learn piano or guitar definitely. But don't think of it as practicing piano, think of it as practicing synth or keyboard so that you can join an indie band.

I play guitar and piano. Guitar is easier to learn but piano is easier to play...and if you get a keyboard, you don't have to tune it all the time like you do a guitar. You don't have to tune pianos as often, but you still have to tune them. Personally I like piano better.

Guitar is very easy to learn IMO...and you don't really need a teacher. It's easy to learn, but not to get good at. You have to practice endlessly and some things are very difficult to play, especially if you have small hands. You might want to take that into consideration. One advantage to guitar is that you don't have (though it's still a good idea) to know how to read music, you can read tabs, which are easy to learn. Piano is very difficult to learn.

And Indie is short for independant, generally used towards bands on indie labels (small labels, an example would be Eyeball Records) or unsigned bands...some people also use it to describe a certain sound though, and most of the time they're referring to the Indie Rock genre. Pavement is a good example...some bands like Death Cab For Cutie also have an Indie sound in my opinion but I'm not sure whether it's appropriate to call them Indie. And a really good Indie band in the sense that it's still a very small band that few people have heard of is Gregory and the Hawk.
