Hey guys!!! Little mini complain here!
So basically, I’ve played every game in the series and I’ve been a fan of this series for many years with nobody to play it with. I was content with this, but still since New Horizons became so popular I was very excited to see my (adult) friends had picked up the game too, and very excited to play the game together for once!!!

Only to get... A whole lot of, “Why haven’t you decorated your island yet”, “stop focusing on your house and decorate your island”, “why is there nothing on your island”

I’m tired of being told how to play? I’m playing this game in the same manner I’ve played all others. I upgraded my house, collected a ton of furniture, had a great time decorating it, chatted to the villagers and tried to raise friendship with my favourites and have been busy with filling up the museum.

This is a life simulation game? Not a town builder? I can do what I want. It’s bad enough some of my favourite aspects like hilarious villager dialogue and ridiculous chain errands are no longer in the game, and my favourite relaxing spot (the Roost) isn’t either, to the point where I’ve been playing wild world and population growing alongside it.

Why can’t my friends just respect this? Why does playing together mean giving a 5 star island tour. Why can’t we not fish, chill in the museum, trade furniture.

Obviously the creativity in this game is amazing, but I just feel like a lot of newcomers to the series feel like that’s the only way to play :/

Have any of you struggled with this attitude? Share your stories if you want!

One of my favourite things about Animal Crossing is that there is no right or wrong way to play it, you can just do what you enjoy. I focus on my house more but lately I've been working on my island as I want those 5 stars. What I'm trying to say is don't worry.

“stop focusing on your house and decorate your island”
if it makes you feel any better, my house was the first thing i finished in terms of decorating and expanding. i really didn't start decorating/terraforming my island until many many many hours later into the game. (personally have 740 hours logged atm)

i feel like i keep repeating myself each time whenever a user make a thread expressing how much other people's different opinions bother them whether it be how they play the game or in terms of villagers but ....stop caring about those opinions :). your game, your decisions.

Sounds like you need some new friends! At the end of the day it’s your game, your way! My island is currently a mess, items littered everywhere and minimal decorations here and there. Obviously at this rate I’ll never get a 5 star rating, lol but that’s okay. I’ll get there eventually. I don’t see a need to rush. This game is my escape from reality. Not playing for the validation of others, just for my own pleasure.

Awwwwww thank you so much guys
Wasn’t expecting this response but I appreciate it

aww I'm sorry its happening to you!

I think I encountered this playing in new leaf where I refused to lay down paths bc I couldn't find one that I like. Some people are very vocal. they think their way of playing is the only way.

Awww :c. I'm sorry you're being told these things, bby ;-;. Just focus on how you want to play the game. I know when I started playing I always decorated my house first and focused on upgrading it :p. I think island decoration and landscaping should be something taken slowly, because more often than not you'll find you don't like it and tear it all down (I literally did this...lol.) As long as the way you're playing brings you joy, then try your best to focus on that uwu. Lots of people on here say how their islands are always under a work-in-progress. I think mine will always be slightly altered even after I "finish" it. Haha.

The problem with NH's mainstream popularity is that many players who have never played an AC game before fall into the social media trap that unfortunately completely misrepresents what AC is about. Building the island is obviously the standout feature of this entry, but overall it's just one aspect of many.

So yeah, tell your friends to act like friends and leave you alone about how you play the game.

Yeah I agree :/ it seems to me that everyone seems to not understand what this game is truly about and it’s kind of sad to me. The fact that villagers have been programmed to say the same things every day before going into deeper dialogue and don’t give you much to do. That plus the lack of buildings and things isn’t really helping :/

I did the exact opposite: played the game for hundreds of hours and terraformed and decorated my whole island before I even touched my house.

Different strokes for different folks.

I have a friend who is new to the animal crossing franchise and whenever they visit my island they always ask me to give them a tour.
So I do but I never show them the inside of my house cause I have done nothing to it at all cause I care more about the look of the island not my home interior.

And the last time they came over they just walked into my house and was like oh um wow this is um a work in progress I guess... don't worry babe at least your island looks good.

Also whenever I go to visit their island they have done the exact type of design that I have made in my island. Like I built a jazz/wine bar and they made one the exact same, same furniture and somehow found the same flower and wine bottles QR codes that I used for a wall behind the bar.

I do not mind at all if someone makes the same things I do on my island but to copy exactly like mine then they say to me oh yeah it looks kinda likes yours but mines so much better is like really?

Like you said @Bilaz I just wanna catch bugs with friends, hang in the museum and so on

Hey who’s island is it anyway. That’s the great thing about this game it’s your way not there’s.

You should carry on doing what you wanna do. I treat it like a sandbox game and just whatever I feel like when I feel like doing it. If that means I'm not "playing the game right" then so what? We bought the game we should play it the way we want to!

That sounds kinda mean (unless they're joking about it) I would call them out on it if I were you haha!

You’re right of course!!! I totally respect those who terraform and decorate every inch!! I think it’s amazing and I love to see it too and that’s just not me but that’s okay!!!

Unfortunately they were being serious that's how they have always talked to me I just ignore it haha

Seriously, I feel like some people are taking this game way too seriously and hopping on the bandwagon for trying to fit in. Just ignore the noise they’re making. I’m still stuck with one room in my house and have barely done terraforming. As I said multiple times, play how you want it as long as you don’t harm anyone.

AC is a game for everyone and caters to the individual. I haven't got to dream yet and my island is still under construction but thats because of how I play under my own terms. Why should it matter if you decorate or terraform? Some people like the undeveloped, wild look. I mean, the theme is "deserted island"....so just play how you want to play and just ignore them.
