I want to reset my town, but I don't know whether or not I should.
Reasons why I want to reset:
- I hate my town layout.
- I hate my house location.
- I hate my villagers.
- I hate my town name.

Why I don't want to reset:
- I put a lot of bells into my home.
- I have a lot of things I don't want to redo (getting CT/island, Main Street Upgrades, Cyrus, etc)
- I don't want to lose my cataloged items.
- I always feel ashamed and guilty when I reset my town.

What should I do?

Do you have 500 hours of play time and 500 days played? You call sell the town to Nook and start with a ton of Bells.

I started 2 months ago, but I think I can still sell my home. I'll have to check.

50 hours and 50 days, not 500
if you have met those requirements you can sell your town to nook

this guy explains the process well in the beginning of the video, i hope this helps!! :0

also! if you restart and rover doesnt offer any layouts you like, you can safely turn off the game and retry. You're old town doesnt get deleted until you save the game in your new town which is when you plant the sapling at the plaza. However youre gonna have to go through the selling process to nook all over again everytime you try to reset for a layout you like

personally, i think itd be very worth restarting

You can keep your catalog when you reset. And if you do sell it, you can catalog things easily here.
You can change your villagers.
You can buy bells here.
Town layout can't really be changed...but poooossibly be worked around.
I dunno about house location.
Getting Main Street upgrades and unlocking stuff doesn't take forever but does take some time.
A lot of people have town names they hate but still keep their towns.

I'm not saying you shouldn't reset or should reset, these are just some points.

The cataloged things arent really a problem anymore. My sister was willing to log into my old (and empty) villager in her town to hold my items while I reset. But I have a question, If I decide to sell my cataloged items when i reset my town, will the items be sold too? Or just the catalog itself?

Just the catalog

It depends. I recently restarted and I'm really happy. A new fresh start, villagers and trading on tbt has really helped. I could easily trade, and have gotten lots of bells :D
Selling is usually the best option, but restarting is more of a challenge. It's your choice in the end ^^

Just the catalog

So If my sister held my items on the old villager acc, I delete and sell my catalog, then re-transfer the items back, I can get all of my catalog back? (since, once an item is in your pockets, it gets added to the catalog.)

I'm currently feeling the same way with my first town. I like the idea of the fresh start with the knowledge I have now compared to the day I got the game, picking the first map I saw and plonking my house down in the first spot I saw. I got a second account which I'd time travel on but with that and millions of bells in the bank, I feel like the experience has been ruined. Try playing without time-travelling for a week or so to see if you begin to appreciate your town more that way (I know I feel better about my second town now) but I say if you've thought it over and see more of the bad things than the good you should restart. Good luck!

Yep! That should work. Although it might be time consuming it should be fine if youre dedicated enough B) I was able to have a friend hold some of my items in her town and be able to retrieve them once i restarted my town, although i didnt sell my catalogue.
but i dont see why it wouldnt get added to your catalogue

i restarted my town a few days ago without knowing that you need to meet certain requirements to sell it to tom nook, and ive been beating myself up about it since i put a lot of bells in my house but apparently havent played enough as my town was only a month old. i say you should check if you can sell your town and do it, andif you cant yet then keep it until you can. the extra bells you get are really useful, especially in the eginning when you have upgrade after upgrade that requires spending money ;; or if you really, REALLY hate it so much, then just restart and slowly work your way up like you did when you payed it first time. also, for anyone looking for certain villagers, theres a blog on tumblr called animalcrossingnewleafshop that offers "adoption", where you can get some villagers for free. they have a lot of amiibo cards and can get you the villager you really wish you had - it always makes everything better, right? restarting wont be so tedious if you'll have your favourite animal to talk to ^^
