Maybe because I'm bad at exterior designs or MAYBE I'm tired of miscalculating the needed space. I've settled talking to my villagers to take a break after making a wrong estimation making my crescent shaped cliff for the nth time today. I've used items to count the needed space but I still find myself lacking in needed dimensions and such. I'm so frustrated lmao.

Am I the only one who thinks of this this way? I feel like I'm crazy for being burnt out when everyone got grand-looking cliffs like omg orz

For those that have terraformed a lot, it is often because they like doing it. It doesn’t sound like it’s your thing or maybe it is but you need to take a break from it. It’s not fun to me so I just don’t do it much.

I have to take breaks because it's super monotonous for me. I usually try to plan out what I want to do in an island design app prior to attempting it in-game to save time, but it usually doesn't knock off that much time because I always am adjusting things lol.

It never is my thing to be honest. I'm better at interiors than exteriors though I do have a set plan in my mind and drew up the map I wanted to make but I think I'm not that good at it (terraforming labor). LMAO.

I don't know if I agree. I think terraforming is just a general staple for town designing regardless of if you find the process monotonous or not.

I personally find it exhausting because a lot of times I need to visualize how it'll look so I'll spend a bunch of time landscaping cliffs / water, only to tear it all down and be back at square 1. I'm sure my neighbors hate the sound of me making cliffs / waterfalls now because it goes on non-stop like a water dripping for hours sometimes LOL

Oh, I feel this a lot. I planned it out in island designer but it's still coming out wrong and I even have to keep pulling out my map to see why and where I made a mistake but I'm just super dumb at this LMAO. (LUCKILY I'M BETTER AT WATERSCAPING...)

Except you don’t have to use the feature at all. That’s the beauty of it. I would hope that people who don’t actually want to terraform just choose not to. It isn’t necessary if you don’t want to. I’m not saying that’s the case here because it probably isn’t, but I would hope that those that don’t want to don’t feel pressured to from Instagram islands lol.

It’s so weird because usually I don’t love the interior designing of my house but in this game I’m getting way more into it 😂 I feel that way about terraforming too, but just remember we judge our own work more harshly than others do.

Oh I want to re do my entire town but i get burnt out just from moving my flowers. Its driving me nuts i just wanna terraform not move the 10000s of flowers that raided my island :c
I also need to move a lot of flowers. I worry that having a billion flowers is part of the reason I have 5 stars lol. Either way they need to go.

I barely terraformed much on my island but I have massive respect for anyone who took the time to move out all of their villager homes out and start from scratch because I would become exhausted and run out of ideas >0> I think the biggest pain of all would be trying to get rid of all those flowers......

What does instagram island even mean lol.. if you think something looks cool then it's normal to want to replicate that on your island regardless of if it's a popular trend or not. My point being that most of us that terraform don't do it because we enjoy it. We do it because the result it produces can look really good and thus suffer through the process.

It means that some people look at social media (which is what Instagram is considered) and want to replicate their island to be like those to show it off, not because they enjoy the process. I guess I find it silly to do something in Animal Crossing that you don’t enjoy but to each their own. Your point is lost on me.

But to work hard both creatively and manually to craft a product that you're proud of (regardless of the source of inspiration) and wanting to display it is the point for many people including myself. We can absolutely have differing opinions on this, but I don't think it's fair to have such a condescending tone about things that people spend a lot of time and effort on and further diminishing it by labeling it as something so shallow.

it took me 3 days to re terraform my whole island, and i’m still not done with ideas haha

I am stating an opinion. We can both agree that people play differently. While I may understand that people may do things that stress them out in AC and I may not understand why they play that way, that’s how they play. I won’t deny they aren’t working hard, and I have not and will not do such a thing. I am sorry you misunderstood my tone. Silly wasn’t the best word choice and I can own that. Thanks for your opinion and have a great day!

at the beginning i kinda swore to keep my terraforming to a minimum—to keep everything as natural as possible. eventually i got irked with how every addition/new area felt like an afterthought confined in such a small amount of jagged space. i also never wanted to plan in advance since it'd just make me anxious of messing up and/or comparing my island :,( i gave in to terraforming (and still don't have a plan; just aimlessly working, which is kinda counterintuitive for the whole "afterthought" feeling) though i'm antsy about giving it a week and still not liking how it ends up. sigh the unbearable lightness of animal crossing

Terraforming is an awesome feature, but it also is very tedious. Feeling burnt out is going to happen. Some people probably just grin and bear it, so they get a lot done. I measure out the size of buildings and inclines with the custom patterns to get an idea of where I want to place things, how much space I'll need between a cliff, and what items like street lamps, benches, stalls, and whatnot. I sometimes use the Island Planner by bubble wand games if I want to see how things will look when it's finished. It can save you a lot of Bells as well so you don't have to spend them to move things around. I'd also like to mention that you're unable to save your work on the Island Planner. If they added that feature, then great. Otherwise you should probably just print screen your work and piece them together in Paint or something.

I don't think everyone is pressured to catch up to designer islands, I just have an established lore and planned landscaping that fits my intended theme (woodsy-fairy with a mix of celestial stuff since the other character I have is based on Polaris) so...while I'm not obligated to do so, I need to do it since I planned it out in the first place. I'm just not good at labor. My BF would do it for me but he's 7k miles away from me so I'm stuck to doing manual labor to surpass the expectations that I personally set for myself, not designer ones. My natural map is actually extremely stuffy and limited that dismantling 80% of it will give my islanders a chance to have lawns AND give space to future shops and buildings without having the need to dismantle for the nth time.

Designer islands actually give me that high anxiety because their lack of awareness to future contents. I can't imagine dismantling such carefully planned areas and redoing it again. I'd have a mental breakdown LOL. So I avoid looking at them. (Because why would I kick my anxiety that high when the island design isn't mines? They do kinda freak me out though. Too much effort going to be destroyed by future contents...it makes my stomach churn... (also yes, terraforming gave me trauma enough to feel anxious redoing islands again))

I know what you mean about the future content! I have some land that is pretty open by my museum and I’m holding out hope I can put The Roost there again so I can get coffee before listening to Blathers 😂

I actually have planned spaces in mind, what I'm scared about is if Nintendo is withholding more details, and I mean, if there's other buildings to come other than Brewster and Leif. I'd be so mad. While that's a good thing, accommodating spaces because Nintendo thinks it's cute to mix island designing + keeping future buildings a secret which WILL throw off people who worked hard on designing their islands.

They don't even have to tell what buildings they are. If they could just release building dimensions then I think no one's going to throw a fit being suckerpunched out of the blue with additional buildings. I think Nintendo has genuine intentions but they implemented this kinda poorly.
