I'm so frustrated with my map.

When I started my town four years ago, I picked probably the worst map possible. I don't know what I was thinking back then, but it's terrible. The river takes up so much space, and all of the land is so narrow that barely anything fits.

I'm trying to relandscape my town, and I'm having so much trouble. I want all of my villagers houses to be in a straight line close together, but I can't find any space to do this. I've tried like five different spots, and they all end up running into a cliffside or into the river. Right now, my houses are scattered all over the place and I really don't like that.

I'm thinking about resetting, but at the same time I really don't want to. I've had my town for four years, and I have made so much progress. I've caught all the bugs, fish, and sea creatures, and I have almost all of the gold badges excluding a couple. I've also finished my entire museum, paid off my house, have over 80% of my catalogue finished, and so much more. I know that you can transfer your catalogue over to your new town, but I just don't want to have to start all over with everything else.

Yeah... I just needed to get that little rant off my chest. :p This game is fun, but sometimes it's so frustrating. This time though, it's my fault for picking the worst map in existance.

Not that I remember, because there's been so many people talking about this...but did you ever show us an in game map of your town? Maybe if we look at it to, we can give some advice.

This is an old picture from 2015, but here is my map. Things are different now than in this pic, but the river and stuff is the general idea.

Also, here are all the places I have tried so far. The red lines shows where I wanted to place houses, the black x's are my rocks. The only place I have left to try is the top of my map, but I'm worried it will get too close to my train station.

Yeah that's what I was thinking...what do you have on the very top of the map? Like where the railroad/campsite is? Yeah you can't remove the campsite, so that's a bummer...but you should be able to fit a good bit of the villagers on both the left and right side of the train station.

Have you tried that yet? That would take a lot more work, but they wouldn't be all spread out everywhere. I see you have one house up there already, so they should be able to fit there.

I have a line of trees and bushes up at the top of my map where the train tracks are. It's so narrow up there that if I place houses up there, all my trees and bushes will be destroyed. I like to kind and hide the traintracks, so I don't know if I would want to do that. The houses will also only fit on that one side where the one house is. The other side is too narrow for any houses. That space where the campsite is at is the only space for anything, but it's already taken.

This is my only idea left for placing houses. Only problem though is I have no idea how many I could fit in this area.

I might have to place a couple of them somewhere else because I know there wouldn't be enough room for ten houses, but if I could at least get enough here it might work out.

So.... my oldest town has a similar map except it's a west beach.
Like you I've had this map for years, huge catalog. Don't want to reset.
Mayors house is about the same as yours.

Here's what I've done:
- as many as possible in a long row on the bottom cliff. I know...you can't fit all 10 there. Neither can I.
But maybe you can fit 5.
- you have a much better upper river area for houses. For whatever reason my area by the ocean waterfall is more narrow. You could fit two by the campsite, and probably three on the other side of the train station. Probably 5 up at the top.

With 10 split up into two residential areas of 5 it leaves a lot of room for landscaping.
My campsite is right where that villager is above the bridge on the northern curve of the river. It's been a challenge to landscape but now it's become a nice park area.

It would be a lot of path placing and plot resetting but at least I can tell you with a similar map I had 4 on the top by the tracks and 6 on the bottom because my Re-Tail is a little different than yours.

Good luck! Keep us posted!

I'm surprised that the second choice of yours won't work. The running into the river might be wrong? For me, Kabuki's house is literally right in front of the river, with only one space behind him. (I'll show you how close he is. His is the one above and to the left of the town plaza. :) )

I've tried with the bottom river area, but my cliffs and river are just so jagged that it's very hard. :(

I could potentially put houses there, but then the only problem is that I either wouldn't be able to fit any trees there and I wouldn't be able to have a path. I tried to run a double spaced path through there and fit houses, but I couldn'd do it. Only three will fit, and two of which were right by the Re-Tail which I didn't like.

I might be able to do a single path, but I'm worried it will run into my cliffs. I'm also having trouble finding edged single paths without grass on them. :p

Hold on, I'm going to try something. I might have an idea

Very interesting map you have... I don't think it's that bad - only 5 rocks! It just needs some adaptations, particularly in the positions of the houses. I decided to try a mockup for one idea, considering you want a close set of houses:

The trick was to move the bridge to where the campsite is, so you can line up more houses there. If you can line them up to the plaza like this (I don't know if you can or not), you've compressed a lot more homes to that area. then, the last two homes are between the town hall and retail, and can even form a path between them.

Maybe this could help you.

Instaed of keeping them all together, could you divide them into two groups of 5? Or in pairs? That looks equally good as all together. My town Arbolita has a winding river and makes most of my town narrow so to keep the town looking organized I made all my villagers on the lower half of town. Simple things like this can make a big difference in a town. Resetting your original town is a hard decision to make, all towns can look great no matter what kind of map. I wish you luck!

i have the exact same town as you! it's so frustrating that they dont' let you plan the town out from the beginning or at least with an easier tool like in the sims.
