this website is a lot of fun and everyone has been super nice so far but I'm almost feeling like it takes some of the fun away from animal crossing for me by buying villagers/items like this since I always thought a nice aspect of the game was seeing day by day what's in your shop and whether or not you got a new neighbor (and the randomness of the move-ins was always exciting, too)

it's not anyone's fault but mine that I'm feeling like this since it was from my own free will that I joined this site and took part in buying villagers lol

idk I almost feel like I just wanna start my town over so I can start fresh and play the way I always liked to before :/

Other people have thought this as well and that's okay. It does tend to make things too easy and some people really enjoy that. Others not so much. I try to fond a balance, but I must say I LOVE being able to get certain villagers, items and trade tbt for igb. But I get you.

I know what you mean. I agree. But I've played ACNL without wifi for years and I've done most things myself, so this gives me a chance to actually get badges that require other players and buy the rest of my items that will never show up in my own shop. Try taking a little break every now and then :)

yea I'd probably feel differently if I had done like u did lol

I've had the game for years but I never really played it very much until here recently so unlike u I didn't really get to do everything myself :') I'll probably just restart my town and start fresh (since this time around I promised myself I would play normally and not TT to get things done faster but I ended up doing it anyway smh) and then maybe eventually I'll come back to selling/trading/buying online

I've felt that way too. I've put some boundaries on my own way of using this site. I have bred all of the flower types myself, except for the blue rose and purple pansies, which were gifts from friends. I have gotten all of my villager pics myself, by befriending them and playing the April Fool's game with Blanca. I only get fish and bugs from my own town to finish my catalog, etc. This, for the most part, helps me feel like I've accomplished things on my own. It's ok to feel how you feel! I would suggest doing whatever makes you feel comfortable. If starting over without help from this forum makes you feel good, then go for it!

Oh no, it sucks that you feel that way but I guess the trading aspect isn't for everyone, it's definitely different to how I used to play, and at first I wasn't sure if I liked it either.

If you feel that way then maybe it is a good idea to start again, you don't want the fun of the game ruined! I personally like it here, I haven't traded much recently due to being busy with exams and other commitments, but I still like the discussion (basement, brewster's cafe, etc.)!

yea I really like the community/being able to just talk about the game, I just feel unaccomplished by getting villagers from other people instead of experiencing the fun of random move-ins c': it almost doesn't even feel like animal crossing anymore, you know?

even though I'm probably gonna reset I'll stick around on here just for discussion because everyone's been so fun and friendly :)

I personally didn't feel that way when I joined, but it's natural if you did! Everyone likes playing animal crossing a certain way. Some people (like me) time travel, some hack, others prefer to play the game like it's supposed to be played. I say, do what ever you feel you need to do to get the things that you like/want. Whether it be joining sites like bell tree, or just waiting and checking. Anyway is just fine, there's no shame in any way you choose to play the game. That's what makes it so fun, if you ask me :D

I've played main and two others the natural way. Just took what villagers moved in and shopped in my own stores.
Just bought one item from a friends town and have bought some rare Japan DLC from here. Example 7-11 and food items.

I've been playing for almost 3 years and bought my first villager. I lost Muffy due to a bridge error and the campground kept giving me more Jocks. I already have 3. The new one was my 10th in and happy that I could had Bluebear to my town.

I completely agree with you! There are a few items I will buy. I e brought a few flowers, trees, bushes, still like that when I first start off and I'm re arranging things, but other than that, buying and trading villagers, buying items, I don't do cause I love the randomness of it all. So I'm with u on that. But I do play with other people online, let them into my village, go to theirs, cause that part is fun, seeing how others set up their village and talking and stuff. When they say it's ok if I see something in their shops I want I will buy that though

I wouldn't call it uptight, everyone has different ways of playing and yeah, I've felt like this too! First when I discovered the HH showcase, it was like I could order any furniture I wanted and at first that gave me a boost, but pretty soon it just felt too easy. Then I discovered the villager popularity list and I realised that people actually chose what villagers they wanted and tracked them down! Until then I thought everyone played like me, just letting villagers move in and out, keeping the ones they liked and letting go the ones they didn't. Then came trading villagers and plot resetting and... Well, it's never been the same since! I have limits though, I have only ever traded one item, I ordered a cushion off someone. So my trading is limited to villagers, all my fossils, fish, bugs are from my town, and I never TT past my current irl week (actually, in my new town I have a no TTing rule and it's AMAZING, so much more fun now I stopped TTing again)! So it's different for everyone, and I think if you enjoyed the old way better, maybe think about going back to it for a bit to see if it's still as much fun!

When it comes to Animal Crossing Villager hunting, I follow the saying "If you want something right, do it yourself". When I first started hunting for my villagers in Azulon (My main town) I hunted tooth and nail for the villagers I deserved. I NEVER got any of the villagers I wanted by assistance of others and I found all of my dreamies on my own with hard work in less than 2 Months. I think it was something I really prided myself on which Is why I have a Cycling Wishlist thread going on right now to hopefully help others since I was able to help myself.

The point is: This is a forum shared by the one thing we have in common: Love for ACNL. Sometimes even some of the most experienced and knowledgable players need a hand, it's good to help others in a game just like how if you needed help that you would want someone to help you too.

I felt the same way about the villager popularity list hahah I never actually knew that people traded/bought villagers before :) it was especially surprising to me how much some people are willing to pay!

But yeah I just reset my town and it feels nice to have a fresh start. Like you, I'm going with a no TT rule because when I first got the game I didn't even know you could TT and honestly the experience was a lot more relaxing back then

I definitely agree with you in regards to the fact that the trading community can take away a certain aspect of the game that can be fun. When I was younger, it was really fun to have to wait and wait for Nook to stock that last piece of the cabana set or the classic set that I really wanted, but as I've gotten older I've gotten a bit more impatient. Plus, it can get frustrating when you need one last piece to complete your living room or you can't seem to get that last fossil you need to complete your fossil collection at the museum. That's something I really like about TBT, I like being able to get the help I need to finish my collections and to build the town of my dreams.

There are people who take it to extremes though, in my opinion. I feel like the people who farm for bells just to sell them on here for TBT or take trading super seriously as if it were actual business are taking the fun out of the game. I mean, play how you want and if it's fun for you, great! It's just not for me.
