Most of you guys know about the vow I made in regards to buying stuff, but this this beyond that. I'm resetting my town and instead of plot resetting, I'm just going to put paths down in front of my train station, town hall and plaza and just let villagers move where they want, and on top of that, I'm just going to pick a random map, not think too much about the details. Like this map

This is a map I usually don't go for, but in the spirit of challenge, I decided to go for it and it was the first map Rover showed to me and I picked it. I'm not going to sweat about the fruit or the villagers or the grass shape, or where the villagers are living.

I'm just going to see how far I get before my OCD starts acting up. I also have a random face because I didn't pay attention to what answers I gave.

Edit: My OCD is already acting up and I just got into town. uh oh......

Again with the resetting?!

I don't know what would cure what ails you in the game, other than the suggestion to hack into the right villagers and map into place at the start. Or that you should rethink what would make playing this game more fun for you...

I almost think you should probably take a break from this game. Or find another game that you enjoy. Quite a bit when you post about this game, it's how it's frustrating and getting on your last nerve. That can't be healthy and or fun for you...

Ok, I have some advice.

This is from someone probably as indecisive as you because I can never decide on what town map I want... My advice is that you reset for a map you absolutely love and the face that you want and become absolutely CERTAIN that you love the town. and then DONT. GIVE. UP. I know it may be hard but you can't give up on this one town ! Just imagine all your villagers sad when you want to, and think of the pros of your town rather than the cons...

if that doesnt help, ^^ you should probably take a break

I wish you the best of luck! I would never be able to do something like this, being a major perfectionist myself, so I'd admit that this takes some guts to withstand how ABSURD the placement where villagers usually put their houses down can be. I just hope this doesn't stress you out too much. Who knows? You could possibly create the most perfect town out of this. Just remember, all towns are great towns. No matter what the layout, theme, villagers, etc. are! Good luck!

To be honest I'm starting to like the layout of your town, it's excellent for me (plaza is pretty far away from town hall, ReTail is pretty close to the dock, and more). I suggest you work better this time in your town, and try to avoid the things that made you reset. Also, I would say don't worry too much about placement of stuff and all that, since you can easily work it out if you put your mind to it.

Hi! I actually think you got a pretty good map, especially since this is literally the first one! I know the temptation to reset may be strong, but just go with it! The type of fruit and grass doesn't really matter that much, in my opinion, especially since you can get the other fruits later on anyway. As for the villager face, I hope you didn't get stuck with anything too weird, but accessories, eye and hair colour, hair style and outfit all make a huge impact on how your villager looks.

I really hope you stick with this! Don't let the OCD ruin your experience in your new town.

I know, I should take a break from this game. But honestly, unless I sell this game, it's not going to happen. If I know the game is there, I am going to want to play it. I can put the game in a drawer, put it in my garage, put it in the car, or anywhere in my house, my brain is going to know it's there and want to play it. Believe me, I tried taking a break from Super Smash Bros, a game that truly gets on my nerves, and I went back to it after a day because I knew it was there and a part of me wanted to play it. Same with this game. Short of selling this game, which I refuse to do, taking a break isn't going to happen.

Does it really bother people that much that I post about resetting or my maps? I'll stop if it is. I mean because when it comes down to it, me resetting a million times isn't affecting anyone's game play but mine, but I can see how me posting about resetting or my maps can get annoying, so I'll stop with those posts.

Edit: I'm going to buy a second copy of this game, so if my OCD kicks in, and I really think I have OCD no joke, then I can reset to my hearts content on my side game, while my main town stays untouched. I think it's OCD that's causing me to reset, not this game. Before I was joking about OCD but the more I think about it, the more I'm sure I have it. NO ONE, and I no one resets a game this much over a map! Come on! Not after two months! Maybe after a year or so, not two months!

You're totally right! It's your game and you can play however you want. I'm definitely not a resettled, so little things don't bug me very much (grass, layout etc.) However, like @ Lanstar said, it's basically impossible to get every tiny little thing the way you want it unless you hack, and I personally think that can take the enjoyment out. There's nothing wrong with taking a week-long breather, doing something else for a bit, and looking at your town with new eyes. I know it's hard, but you just have to find stuff to like about your town! For me, Animal Crossing gets fun once you have a big catalogue and most of the shops and you start laying paths and designing your house and landscaping your town, and to do that you have to just stick it out through the slow stuff at the beginning.

The trouble with resetting a lot is you don't get settled into your town well enough. Find a town you like, pick a face you think is cute, worry about your fruit and the amount of ponds if you like, but just have faith in your town! Your vision will change ten, twenty, fifty or even one hundred times. What you like at the start you may not like later. Be patient! Don't let little things ruin the game for you.

Put it aside just for a few days, think about what you want to do, then go for it!

Thank you. Yeah, I used to not care about layouts or fruit or grass and I don't know why I started caring about it now. I found a pretty good map here

WVW69kmV750FOlREwr.jpg

I'm just going to take the game one day at a time. Don't plan stuff or worry about stuff. Just play it. I'm buying a second copy so if I do get the urge to reset, I will reset obsessively on my second game, while playing my main town, which has the above layout.

Honestly I don't think it's the maps or the fruit, or the grass, or the villagers, or the river. I just I'm just insane and should not be allowed to play games that require patience and mayoring.

Also, I'm going themeless, because then, I'll be wanting to get items to fit that theme and that's going to make me even more crazy, and believe me, I'm crazy enough given I restarted this game about 50 times today before finding this map.

Why, what's wrong with it?

Because, nothing is wrong with it to me. You can't tell how a town looks or feels just by looking a 2D image of it. I'm pretty sure I made a post about that earlier.

Edit: You know what, I don't care why you don't like it. It's MY town and I like this map and that's all that matters.

As someone diagnosed with OCD and that takes medication daily to treat it, it's a little frustrating to see the term thrown around so lightly to be honest. I know it's common for people to use it in the sense that you keep using it, but it kind of minimizes how debilitating it actually is for someone who actually has it. If you truly believe you have OCD you should see a doctor, but a lot of people are picky or perfectionists without having OCD. OCD doesn't mean picky or hard to satisfy.

OCD is often accompanied with intrusive thoughts. Like maybe you constantly have thoughts that you're going to kill your dog, these thoughts disturb you so badly and make you feel so sick and you're so afraid about what if you do it (obsession), and so you develop a compulsion that stops the thought/assures you you won't do anything to hurt your dog. Like maybe you compulsively change their water in their bowl, to make sure it's safe. 20+ times a day, to where you're wasting tons of time. Late for work, can't hang out with friends, because you need to go home to change their water, have to wake up in the middle of the night to change the water. Etc. etc. extremely disruptive. The compulsion doesn't necessarily have to directly connect, but yeah.

There are other types too, like you can be very messy and have OCD, in fact hoarders are considered to have OCD. They compulsively keep stuff and never throw certain things away because of whatever obsession/fear they have. I have OCD and my town being imperfect doesn't bother me at all. Someone who is very bothered by the imperfections in their town, most the time probably doesn't have OCD. They could, but it really has nothing to do with OCD. It's normal to want things to be perfect or have low-key obsessions about things now and then.

You very well could have OCD, I obviously can't know, if you think you do I would go see a doctor if it's disrupting your actual life at all. It just kind of bothers me when people misuse the term though, because someone who actually does have OCD may not even know what OCD is because of the misuse.

Not trying to call you out on anything or anything, just venting. Also this whole post is kind of messy, and poorly written because I have been on a liquid diet for almost a month because of jaw surgery and my brain is making tons more mistakes than usual. Sorry.

That being said, your posts about resetting don’t annoy me. Haha

I didn't really read all of that. The only thing I got out of that is that you are upset that people are throwing around OCD and/or taking it lightly. Um, I have ADHD AND Aspergers sydrome. People with ADHD can have OCD behavior without actually having the disorder itself. So no, I'm not throwing around any terms lightly.
