She likes to play games that require collecting and decorating. I think ACNL would be a perfect game for her to play when she's done everything she can on her iPad games. Problem is, I think she'll think the DS screen is too small (even the XL).

Is it possible to get an emulator or something on the computer?

I'd love to be able to play with my mom. She's much better at decorating than I am.

....She might think the villagers are weird though.... xD

My mom saw me and my sister play the original long ago. My sister and her friend got together with one of our friend's moms and her friends and her daughter and had an animal crossing party a few months ago. I think with the original one.

It's pretty popular with adult women, I play this with a group of adult friends. It can't hurt to show it to her, it sounds like she would like it.

Maybe she would like Happy Home Designer then? That's 100% decorating! :> Also, unfortunately I do not think there is an emulator, because if there was I would totally have it!!

I was about to say just this, so I second this post. I also want to add that there are a lot of adults that play this game and like it. I'm almost 30 and I've talked to another person on the forums who was in their forties.

Hmm. Do you know what kind of DS they play on?
The New 3ds XL is quite big but I'm not sure if its big enough xD

@Peony - I've considered that too! I personally found it a tad boring, so I'm not sure if she'll think the same. I can let her try my game though! Since I'm not really playing it anymore xD

I am 54 and play on a 3DSXL, you can't get it any bigger than that. The new one might be bigger, but if it is it's not much so. I don't have any trouble with it seeming to small.

Oh, I have no doubt adults like the game. I'm 24 and I absolutely adore this game. I'm just not 100% sure its up my moms alley. She hasn't ever played a game on the PC or on any console. She currently plays games on the iPad but they're a lot simpler than a full blown console game (not that ACNL is super complicated).

Maybe if she plays it a more casual way she'll like it? Just don't go into stuff about paths and hybrid breeding and plot resetting and stuff. If she just plays the game naturally she might like it more.

That's good to hear!
I do want my mom to play with me though. I think it'd be so fun and it'd give her more things to do.

May I ask if you've ever played other kinds of games before? If not, did you find ACNL to be a tad complicated?

Hahahaha. I might teach her if she feels like her villagers are being annoying and ruining her beautiful home xD

Your mom could play the Wii or Gamecube version if you have access to game consoles. Then she could play on a TV and won't have small screen issues.

A lot of Moms play ACNL, maybe she'll love it ^^

I really hope so! I want to do something nice for my mom since I started working~

Unfortunately, the only console that we ever owned that connected to a tv was the N64. Don't have access to a Wii or Gamecube :(

I am the mom of a 19 year old and I' ve played AC in various incarnations since the gc version. I think yoir mom would love to be introduced to AC. I introduced my daughter when she was quite young. In the gc version, even my husband had his own character. Now I just play on my 3ds and my daughter plays on hers.

I have WoW on the computer. I have also played many Nintendo games on various different systems over the years. I have played all the animal crossing games since they came out. I am a huge fan of Zelda, but play others games as well.

It doesn't take long to get used to animal crossing. I can't imagine her having a problem. If she likes the game that is.

That's good to hear! You're definitely much more of a gamer than my mom is though hahaha!

Hmm. I think I'm about 80-90% sure of getting her the game now! Thank you all for helping me!!

I would just like to add that on the 3ds xl, both screens appear to be larger than the iphone screen, and both screens together are nearly the size of an ipad mini. Not sure if that's helpful, but, I think the take away is that the 3ds is much easier to read from than its predecessors and comparable to apple products.

As for the game itself, you know your mom best. If she's more into collecting, go for New Leaf. If she's more in to the decorating, maybe go for Happy Home Designer. Or just let her try both, I guess?

My mom doesn't play games, like at all, but I would totally show her ACNL. It's just that her English isn't so great, and I don't think there's a version in our shared language. A lot of the fun comes from the dialogue and the villagers, so it wouldn't be the same. I have shown her while I played though and she thinks it's cute haha.

I told my mom about this game and I feel like she would like it if she tried it but I guess she just doesn't wanna. She's never been into video games, so ye. She's 50 and has stage 4 cancer so I thought she'd like it because it's a cute, relaxing game. Maybe one day she'll try it. :>

I don't know if there's an emulator for NL, but I'm pretty sure there's an emulator for Wild World! I'll try finding it/ remembering the name
