I'm confused about Happy Home Academy o.o

So I lost my first ACNL game cartridge, and I really loved that file because it was my very first game and I worked pretty hard on it.


Im pretty sure my parents accidentally threw it away because it's been missing since December and it was last seen lying on the table.


Anyway I bought a new game and started all over again. I noticed I streetpassed (or spotpassed??????) someone on my new ACNL game so that means someone new is in the Happy Home Academy.


Turns out its me! My old game file ? Why did I appear there? And how? No one is playing it obviously, and I only have one 3DS. I am so confused. Does that mean my game cartridge is around me somewhere? But that makes no sense because like I said no one is playing it.

That.... is very confusing situation!

The only logical explaination I can come up with is that someone near by actually has stolen, was given , or even found your old cartridge, as the gamesaves are in cartridge...or a ghost. Is there a way to look up the FC? Spotpass data is saved to the system itself.
How utterly bizarre! I hope that you can shed some light on this!
