I'm an arachnophob pretty much to the extreme...

Fellow entomophobe/arachnophobe here. I also despise Tarantula farming :(
And in googling to make sure I spelled "entomophobe" properly, Google suggested a huge ass pic of a zoomed in bug face and now I'm very not happy ;_;

Wow thanks for all your replies! I get what people think, plus yes, it's pixels, but even so, irl i have to have someone (usually a cat!!) Rescue me from them, even smaller ones. I know it's illogical, and i have no idea how the fear can extend to something i know isn't real, but it does! So I'm farming them for Flick, but only maybe an island or 2 a night rather than going crazy.

Still feel like they're crawling all over me when I'm done. I've read having a tarantula is actually a good way of cracking arachnophobia, but yeah......i don't even know if i could!!

The tarantulas are fine to me when I'm simply just catching a few and immediately selling them, but when I'm in tarantula island and have to witness an entire inventory full of their icons whenever I press X it's unbearable lol I can't help but scream or jolt and have to squint my eyes if I want to get 40 of them out of my inventory to sell.

I'm actually not that scared of spiders in real life, and I've played plenty of games where you have to kill giant spiders and never felt afraid, but tarantulas are something else. It's the fast movement and pouncing that gets me. After a few bites, I run around my island at night in fear, hoping there aren't any.

Those big water bugs don't please me much either, but at least they don't jump out of the water. I stay away regardless.

I can really identify with Blathers.

I am a huge arachnophobe. I can't deal with the tarantulas in this game. I caught one for Blathers and that's all he's getting.

Other games like Skyrim - good LORD I hate the Frostbite spiders, I've never finished the game because every time I encounter one I need to take like a 2-month break from the game because it's that bad. I don't even like Minecraft spiders. Freaky eight-legged cubes that hiss and land on your head no thank you.

There's only one game where I can JUST handle the spiders and that's World of Warcraft, but I think it's probably something to do with the fact I've played that game since I was 3...

I definitely have a phobia when it comes to the real thing—like the heart-stop, freeze-up kind of panic at the sight of a large spider—but these don’t bother me a bit anymore.

Honestly I think they’re a lot less unsettling now that they’ve become more common and the creepy, scuttling music is gone.

Weirdly, wow spiders never bothered me, either.....

wierdly, I'm not afraid of any other bugs irl or otherwise. Bees, wasps, hornets, giant water bugs, cockroaches, i can deal with them all. It's literally JUST spiders. It makes no sense!

This is strange. I am the biggest arachnophobe you'd meet in real life (Honestly, I hate all bugs), but I am not bothered at all by pictures or videos of spiders, or virtual spiders in video games.

As far as tarantulas go. I'm not afraid of them in real life

Is it strange that Tarantulas don't bother me the same way regular spiders do?

I think it's the fact that they're furry makes them seem less gross somehow (like it makes them seem more "animal-like") and also the fact that they're chubbier. Whereas the small spiders with their long spindly legs bother me way more. You know like the kind of spiders that show up in your bathtub because it crawled out of the plughole.

Personally speaking Tarantulas seem like the most "palatable" kind of spider....if that exists. :p

Wanna hear a real-life anecdote? I was so terrified of spiders and especially whip spiders, that I got one as a pet. Now I love them more than words can describe and seriously google pictures of them before going to sleep because they are LOVE. My point? Phobias can be defeated, and let me tell you, IT. IS. SO. LIBERATING!!!! So, um, hang in there!

I hate this.
If only it was that easy, right?

im petrified of any and all bugs and insects irl but I don't mind virtual tarantulas at all. especially since fainting by them does basically nothing lol. I actually enjoy provoking them with my net and giving them a quick tour of my island as they run behind me

"5 stars. A beautiful tropical island filled with the most magnificent displays of mother nature at her finest. This is a spectacular resort I'd recommend to those of all ages and species. I particularly loved swimming in the rivers"

my tarantula, probably.
