I dropped my bag walking to work this morning and my DS has basically smashed. I wanna die. Tears were shed .

Question - it still switches on so I can see enough to transfer my stuff over to a new one if that's possible - I have digital games and want to keep my FC. Is that a thing?

:(

Yep, if your wireless communication still functions, you can just buy another DS (a regular DS, DSi, 3DS, or which one?) and transfer your data.

Not at all; if you transfer data it's just like having your old DS again, but only on new hardware.

Yeah, just do a system transfer, and also move the SD card over to the new system and it should be as if you were still on your old 3DS.

Was that 3DS linked to your Nintendo Network account, if you have one? If so I think you can just log in on the new 3DS. Not sure though.

I don't think so... I think Nintendo said that they now have online accounts, but when you download stuff, it saves to the system and not your account, so you'll have to transfer your data.

Save data will be stuck on the old system, but if I understood the new process, all you have to do is log in to NN and then you can download all your games anew.

Do a system transfer, this sends all your data from the old one to the new one, including save data. The instructions on the Nintendo site are the ones I used and it all moved across. This also lets you use your Nintendo ID on the new device! Good luck and I hope it all works out for you.

EDIT TO ADD: As others have said, you cab re-download your games once you've logged in and the save data will pick up where you left off
