I think that was partly why I decided to restart my island. I paid off my house too quickly being aggressive with turnips at other islands. Now I am back at my second house payment and I'm not done paying that off yet. I like the idea of saving up a ridiculous amount of NMTs for my own island hopping, but I don't like trading for them. It took me about a month to discover how I liked to play.
I would say resetting was worth it to me, but you have to decide for yourself at the end of the day.
