It's two completely different games...
So Skyward Sword doesn't deserve a 10 because of that?Because Skyrim is likely to get Game of the Year and probably one of the best RPGs ever existed yet IGN rated it 9.5, then they give Skyward Sword a 10.

sounds to me like a few things got really botched.
which reminds me of the past elder scrolls games.. which makes me ask why buy this one?
i haven't played both, same for yourself, so it's really impossible to compare outside of "skyrim is best because it's skyrim and skyrim is the best." or vice versa, with zelda in place of skyrim. skyward sword, whatever.
i haven't really been looking forward to it, but SS looks like it'd be worth a buy.
skyrim.. more of the same.. gonna give oblivion another go and see if i enjoy myself.
I'm not saying that Skyrim is best, nor am I comparing the games as they're completely different but the "ratings" they've given the games just seem silly to me. If the 10 rating for Skyward Sword means the game is perfect, why is Skyrim up for Game of the Year and not Skyward Sword?
IGN have just always seemed backward to me.
How can they compare Zelda to Lord of the Rings....
And come on...this may be good but it's not even in the same league as Skyrim and Halo Reach.
this, and I'm assuming that they give SS the 10 because it's the best at what it's trying to do (as in it excecutes the Zelda formula almost perfectly while adding enough innovation to keep it fresh). With Skyrim, it may an incredibly open game, but it's completely different experience, and I'm guessing IGN believes it could have done better. So Skyrim might win game of the year because the type of game it is appeals more to audiences than the tried-and-true Zelda formula, and because it has so much content.Ign goes out of their way to say that games that get 10's aren't perfect.
Just thought I'd throw that out there.
