I'm also curious, if my alt catches a flea (to complete the bug encyclopedia), does that open the lines of communication of the flea-bag villager?
What kind of furniture does Shep have? I thought he had sloppy stuff.
Since I'm booting W.Link out when I get Fauna's card, what if right before I scan her in, I catch a flea from W.Link with my alt?

I have a theory. I know your alt hasn't talked to him, but did he see them? Maybe that's what made him chat about your alt?

They've never had any contact. He may have seen her walk by, but that shouldn't matter.

Nope.
I don't buy or sell anything (in Re-Tail) with her.
She minds her own business. Never talks to any of the villagers.
I don't even speak to visitors with her.

I doubt it, haven't tried. I know they don't show up on the list of dudes you can send letters to.
In my anecdotal experience, villagers will occasionally bring up alternative characters if you played as them recently. Sometimes they'll bring an alt up, even if you haven't played as them recently. It's RNG like anything else. They won't suddenly center every single conversation around that character and nothing else. At least it's your character they're talking about and not some random Joe that you don't even remember inviting to your town from many moons ago?
I find that this only happens if you initiate a conversation that's not pinged, and it doesn't even happen that often.
