Alright, I recently started playing Luigi's Mansion again trying to get the best ending (A Rank), and I thought about random ideas if they ever made a second game.
Alright here's the story I came up with...
1. This game doesn't revolve around the boos as a main story element
2. Basically, after Luigi's Mansion, E. Gadd wants Luigi to become a professional ghost hunter, so Luigi decides to take the job eventually, at one point someone with a huge mansion calls Luigi up and tells him his house has been tooken over by ghosts, Luigi hestitantly decides to take the job, the main gameplay would stay the same as the first one, but with new things added on such as a Gameboy Horror Advance SP (or Nintendo HS as in DS), and new elemental items, there would of course be "portrait ghosts", just like in the first you catch all the ones in each area, fight a boss, and then drive back to E. gadd's lab and let him turn them into portraits for a new gallery he is making, however somehow some of the cooler ghosts from the last game escaped to the new mansion somehow (so that great ghost characters such as Melody and that artist guy can return (he draws the "overworld" type ghosts remember?)) There would also be a big ghost at the end of course, but it wouldn't be king boo or anything (Nintendo could come up with something i'm sure)
3. Around middlegame... Luigi runs into.... WALUIGI, Basically Wario dares Waluigi to enter the spooky mansion, but after Waluigi goes in, Wario gets creeped out and runs away, and Waluigi gets lost, Luigi and Waluigi have a conversation of sort and then Waluigi teams up with Luigi to purge the mansion of the ghosts, basically making Waluigi a playable character, maybe make Luigi and Waluigi have different attributes, why Waluigi? It just makes sense, plus Waluigi has yet to have a big role in a game.
4. Controllers, i'm still thinking ths one over, trying to think of ways it could be wiimote compatible, but I think it'd be hard to do that unless wii motions control wasn't implemented, it'd also be nice to be able to use the gamecube controller of course.
5. The End - After this ordeal, Luigi decides to retire because he just can't deal with this kind of stuff anymore, and Waluigi walks away with the treasure obtained in this mansion, and E. Gadd gets a nice new gallery of ghosts. The End
