Recently restarted my town and have already planned out ideas for all six rooms in my dream house. A lot of neighbors, Bonbon and Iggly are two examples, have items I need for said rooms. Some examples are Iggly's sloppy couch, TV and stereo, Paula's cabana furniture, gumball machine and both plants, all of Bonbon's modern wood items, etc.

I know that if you talk to a neighbor they may invite you over where you can buy one item there. However, are there any other ways I can get their stuff since this takes a while and sometimes the neighbor I want to invite me over doesn't?

I think these are the only ways! They can put stuff up in Retail too. But when you are over and looking to buy stuff, they often don't sell rare furniture :/

I think your best bet is to earn a bit of bells and buy the items off of re-tail. Sometimes, even if they do invite you over, won't allow you to buy certain items.

Theres always that time, they put something up for sale in Re-Tail, but other than that, I think the other only way is to try an bring up the " Hey, wanna buy something?" convo in a villagers house.

Yeah I was worried about them not allowing me to buy certain items. I don't think Modern Wood items are rare but the Sloppy series is hard to get.

I wonder if there's a way to get my neighbors to put their stuff in Retail?

I think if you send them presents (furniture), they may replace one of their furniture with it and it'll show up in retail. I've actually never had it happen. I've tried. but lucky for me, Nate sold me his whirpool bath (island item) and Shep sold me his cabana screen (island item).

Not much you can do other than try to buy or replace the items they have. They can on occasion put items in retail.

I've noticed though that most my villagers have items of furniture that they will never sell. I think sometimes certain items are fixed in place in some homes and will never leave.

Your best best is buying the sets from someone here. Modern wood isn't hard to find. The cabana is island furniture so it's harder to come by. The skip is almost impossible to get on your own. The few pieces of sloppy furniture I did find in retail came from villagers that don't have any of it in their homes..
