Okay, so just barely, when I turn on my computer, and it starts making this weird humming noise. It's NEVER done this when I turn it on, and it's done it louder eairer this year. My sister (she's the computer expert) said to give it a good slap, and that should shut it up, but I hate slapping the poor thing.

It's a windows XP, roughly 4 years old, and my dad will NOT replace it. He said it's probably the fan.
My other sister (Yes, i have 3 sisters) said that the fan probably needs to be cleaned.

Any suggestions on how to get it to stop doing that humming noise? (oh, crap, it's getting louder!)

You can buy a nice new fan for about 10 dollars on Newegg.com, and since your sister is a computer expert, she could easily open it up and just replace it. Trust me, it's really easy.

Not an expert, but she knows a little more about computers than I do, but she's out of town, and I'm on my grandpa's computer. good news: we have quite a few computers here, but the bad news: That computer's not going to be avalible for a while . . .

That works? I gotta try that next time my fan is dirty.
It's not the best thing for it, but it works some of the time.

Ah, ok. I've done some fan replacement in the past, and I've found that youtube and Google can give some helpful tutorials. I suggest you check them out.

No can do. Why? because the fan's not there anymore, but I'm on the same computer.
How? My sister's boyfriend stole her computer's power supply, put it in here, and put a power box on hers.
Downside? It can turn off at any moment.

See the post above for my excuses for the laptop.

If I did that, my Dad would kill me.
The power supply's from a windows Vista, and this is a windows XP. Odd, eh?

No honestly, its your best option.
PLUS i have found laptops last longer than pcs, i have had 3 pcs in 6years and 1 laptop for 5.
my friend has had a dell laptop for well over 7 years.
I would tell your dad that. Dell laptops are cheap, robust and reliable.

This computer's 4 years old, probably worth a penny.
EDIT: I just told my dad about that idea, and he said a desktop works 100x better than a Laptop. Of course, he's only had one laptop that cost a lot of money, but he's not satisfied with it.
