I tried the move-in trick and it backfired

Not everyone wants to change the 3DS clock. There are people, me included, who have digital versions of games which are time sensitive, and messing with the 3DS clock puts you in a "penalty" of sorts since the 3DS clock also messes with the time in the digital games, even if you put it back.

I use the in game clock because I would rather not be penalized in my other games.

This is why I stay away from digital games.
I don't know what to say to this. Go ahead and TT to that time or whatever. IMO, waiting, if you're not gonna use the 3DS clock, is the easiest thing to do.

So because I use another method that isn't the 3ds clock, I should wait? Right. Or everyone, regardless of what clock is used, could wait, with that way of thinking that you're using, at least. That's a very one track way of thinking you're implying though. But either way, it shouldn't matter what clock is used. They both work the same. And about the digital games, meh, whatever floats your boat. I like having X, Y, and a few other games be easily accessible rather than exchange carts over and over.

No, I'm not saying that.
All I'm saying is that changing the time to 5:58 or whatever is strange.

This is how I do it:

1) So I launch my game after 6am. I choose to have a new character and go through the Rover process.

Here is where it splits:

1a) If the villager plot is bad, I turn off the system/however you reset and go back to step one.

1b) If the villager plot is OK, I go talk to Isabelle and save my game. I can now delete the character.

But it's actually what you said?

Anyways, strange or not, it still works for people. Mistakes happen regardless of what clock you use, so blaming someone for using the "wrong" clock isn't exactly fair. And no, I'm not saying you are, I'm just speaking generally.

Then you didn't understand what I'm trying to say.
This whole conversation/debate/argument or whatever it is came from the whole "change your clock to 5:58" which isn't even necessary for this trick to work. The point of me saying what I said was to point out that you don't have to change your clock, just play after 6AM.

I read what you wrote in the way you posted it. I can't magically decipher what you meant to say, when you just say "use 3ds clock or wait"
Debate or argument? Nono. Not an argument, I don't argue with folks online.
And it is necessary to change to 5:58 if you're not using the 3ds clock, which you don't seem to understand that not everyone uses the 3ds clock.

Some people don't want to wait until after 6am to start plot resetting, some people love the villagers do much they want them there now. Nothing wrong with that.
I'm sorry to say that you just give off this sense of superiority complex when I read your posts. :/

Yeah, I know that people don't always want to use the 3DS clock. I never said you have to use either/or anyways.

"Superiority complex"? Er.. maybe it's just the way I speak. I normally talk like this.. if you haven't seen my other posts before, then this is brand new.

Let me sum up what I'm trying to say:

When you can just do the trick after 6AM, why set your clock to 5:58?

All I was trying to say was the whole "set your clock to 5:58" is stupid when you can just do it anytime after 6AM.

I find that even on a confirmed villager move in date, there's not a plot 100% of the time. I'd say 1/8 tries has no plot. I personally just exit and keep trying rather than place my house, save, and move to the next day. I've never messed up plot resetting (other than when I tried to go a day backwards for Roise. Don't do that.)

This is how I do it everytime and it works great.

There we go. Now it's easier to explain.
With the in game clock, the time is only set (when you change it) when you load up your mayor. And since you can't make a new file and change the time before you make the new character, the mayor is loaded up at 5:58am, saves immediately, then begins the new file that should be done with Rover by 6:00am or 6:01 am. Obviously if you load your mayor at 6am, you're stuck with whatever placement is chosen.

Also, like I said with the impatience thing, nobody who does it this way wants to wait until after 6am of the next day to be able to do this.

That's why I always do it with the the 3DS clock. Much simpler in my opinion. It's always going to be the time you've set it as no matter if it's your mayor or an alt.

And if you TT and the in game clock isn't at the same time of day as your system clock, just make sure the last time you saved as your mayor wasn't too near to the end of the day (6am), and then just move forwards a day on your system clock without changing the systems time. And if in the game it starts getting too close to 6am because you have to reset for quite a long time, just go to your system clock again and move the hours back.

I do this too. I think it's the most convenient option for the people who don't mind going to system settings. But it does mess up my activity log (thousands of steps lost :T) and I suppose that digital games will be affected negatively if you fiddle with it too much.
