I had him for over years now, and this is the first time I realized he is a she when a villager referred to her as "she"

I'm having a Gracie moment now when I thought Gracie was a girl before.

I had read that both Gracie & Sahara were males in Japan but were females for the rest of the world. I don't understand why. Both of them being male wouldn't make me like them any less. I'm not too familiar with Tutu but there are some villagers that I thought were one gender & I was wrong about.

If you want to know for certain a villager's gender, you can look at the color of their name at the top left of their speech bubbles. It will be blue for males and pink for females.

Though if you recognize their personality's voice and dialogue, you can know pretty fast. Since each personality is gender exclusive.

oh that's right . Gracie is only male in Japan...is it true since the beginning of AC that Gracie is female in the US?

oh didn't know that! Thanks for this info!

I think so but I'm not sure. NL is the first AC game I've had the chance to play. Even if it was for just NL - why? I'd love that snobby giraffe & wandering camel anyway.

I remember Gracie making me wash her car until it is spiffy and shiny new. Yup she is that snobby! lol

Gracie and Saharah being males in the Japan version of AC and making them female in all the other regional versions was considered 'censoring' their gender. Apparently other regions can't have effeminate men, as Gracie is. But we have Pav?, who has been confused for a girl, and Bianca who WAS a girl in early version of AC but on NL has a male voice. Makes you wonder huh? :/

Turning effeminate male characters into females isn't new for Nintendo (see: Birdo, Vivian). Unfortunately the damage is already done at this point. Gracie and Saharah have been female in every non-JP release of Animal Crossing since the GCN days, and I don't see them changing that. Blanca is actually in the same boat where she is male in JP but female in all other regions. Pav?, who was introduced well after the initial change and the subsequent follow-up in WW, might be an attempt to gauge whether or not effeminate male characters would do well in non-JP areas. I don't see them changing what is now canon regarding the existing characters, though.

Yeah, I thought Goldie was a boy for a while and I also thought Poppy was. I have a hard time telling haha.

The thing I don't understand about them changing Saharah to female is that he doesn't even look effeminate to me. He wears an open vest and his character design feels neutral to me at best, but leaning towards masculine. The only thing I see that could be considered feminine is his long eyelashes, but that's just a natural trait that all camels have. It would be like saying Cyrus is effeminate because he's fluffy...like all alpacas. It just doesn't work for me.

As far as villagers, when I first saw Bluebear's picture, I thought she was a boy.

Tutu? That's interesting.
I think that some characters have a vague appearance that can be confusing. I can definitely see how both Saharah and Gracie are male in Japan.
