I want a new SD card for pictures for ACNL. I have a cartridge game. So I should be okay, right? Nothing will corrupt?
Thanks.

I just tried it out and things popped up to create extra data for spotpass and to opt-out of streetpass.
The town itself is absolutely fine.

Removing the SD card is only risky if you don't turn it off first. Or if you have games that are saved to the card.
You could always check first though.

I pull my SD card out all the time to upload stuff to my PC, nothing bad has ever happened. The thing's designed to come out and be swapped around after all. As far as I know, if you have a cartridge version of ACNL everything except the photos should be saving onto the cartridge anyway - otherwise there'd be all sorts of customer complaints when little Billy's mom buys him a 3DSXL for his birthday and his town implodes...

Uh...I wouldn't do it. Ejecting the SD card in General is risky.

I've always ejected my SD card when I want to put in new MP3s and it's perfectly fine if you do nothing to the game data.

Nothing will happen unless you have a digital version, just make sure the 3ds is off when you switch them.

Definitely make sure the power is off when you touch the SD card. Don't mess with the system folder and you'll be fine.

I'm not sure what the game saves on your SD card. If it's only pictures than it should be safe.

I also changed my SD card and had no problems whatsoever (I also have the physical copy of ACNL). I did copy the Nintendo 3DS folder to my new SD card though, but only because I had two games as digital versions, so I don't know if it's necessary for Animal Crossing as a cartridge.

i have a digital copy and i take the sd card out all the time for pics. and i don't even bother turning the ds off when i do it >.< i make sure acnl is completely saved and closed, though.. if you want to be really careful you should turn the ds off completely and gently handle the sd card :P

I'm confused by all the people saying that it's risky. A lot of people here upload pictures of their game - there are so many posts in the "funniest moments" thread and all that - and they have to get their pictures onto their computers somehow, right? I never had a SD card before the one that came with my 3DS XL before, so I'm honestly confused if there is some other way to transfer the pictures besides getting the card out of the 3DS and into the computer. If there is, can someone clue me in? I would appreciate it because it is always a bit difficult to get that tiny thing out.

I've changed out the SD card multiple times on multiple devices; copied data to the PC; used in my Wii-U; used in transferring systems between 3DS (multiple times), etc.

I've yet to have a single problem. I wouldn't worry about it (albeit, would be fair to copy your data to a PC before making sure it swaps fine).

How would one go about upgrading their SD card if they have a digital copy of any game on their SD card? Would a system transfer be necessary? I'm not facing this dilemma right now, but it seems like it'd kind of suck for anybody if they couldn't upgrade at the risk of losing their save data.

I wouldn't know anything about switching them as I only have one, but I do take my SD card out to transfer pictures from it to a computer. The system is always off, mind. I delete the pictures off the card as they transfer, too, since I have to borrow someone's computer (mine doesn't have a slot) and email them to myself anyway, creating an email backup of the images. I haven't had any issues.

(Offtopic, sorry OP). For Sheba and anyone else who's wondering about getting pics off the SD card without removing it: if you are able to use the internet browser on your 3DS you can log into your gmail account and mail pictures to a friend (in which case you can extract them from your sent messages) orjust mail them to yourself.

Alright. I got it. All done and everything's finished. It worked perfectly.

Thanks, everyone!
