I refuse to sell villagers

I actually think it's quite sweet, not weird at all.

I don't trade my villagers either... but I just use amiibo to get my favourite villagers, or grind deserted islands. Any villagers that I don't like just get voided. I don't feel safe trading or selling them with all the glitches being reported.

You aren't weird. I'm also going to enjoy whatever villagers I'm given until they decide to move along on their own. I'll get my dreamies eventually.

When a villager moves out of my town, I usually offer them up to my friends for free first. Then I'll usually give them away for free here or on a different forum/discord/reddit. Unless they're a popular villager that I would be able to get something for them, I usually give them away for free to someone that really wants them and will give them a good home because there are definitely some people whose dreamies might not be the most popular and don't get traded very often (myself included with Caroline haha). Sometimes I'll get a little tip from the other person as well :)

As far as buying villagers, I haven't done that ever. I prefer finding them on my own, or adopting one I want from someone who is giving them away for free because they're about to void them. Yesterday, I adopted Wendy from someone who was trying to cycle for villagers and she was about to go to the void. I got her for free, but I still tipped 1 NMT

ive never done it myself, but i actually like the idea that villagers moving out will have a new home with someone that so clearly wants them, and is willing to go far to have them on their island!

I've treated villagers like property before. Technically, they are my property, because they're in my copy's programming. lol I have no emotional attachment unless they're my end-of-the-world favorite or they're a part of a running joke.

Overall, selling villagers, auctioning them off, kicking them out, etc- have no sentimental value to me- especially if they're going to someone else's town/island where that person will take care of them. But to each their own.

I can understand where you're coming from, but some players just want to be able to have the villagers that fit the aesthetic of their town or the villagers they've had an emotional connection to from previous games. Like Mathilda is literally no one's favorite and she's not the most... appealing. But I love her to death and I would do anything to get her in my town.

Also welcome to the Bell Tree Forums!!

just here to say i LOVE mathilda and have her amiibo!! if i ever get her in and cycle her out i'll let you know <3 especially once this glitch is patched and stuff

but anyway on topic, i love the idea of villagers moving out to a different home instead of disappearing into a void. i dont love the idea of selling them, just bc it feels icky to me, but i dont judge other people for doing it or anything. i would just personally feel weird for selling a villager. a friend and i have had that convo too, saying it feels like trafficking when you're auctioning off a villager that's meant to be in the game as a friend LOL

but again no actual shade to people who do!
