Orange Mote of Flame
i just bid in an auction a few minutes ago and the last bid was made at the end time, so i thought that was too late and i was really excited, but then when i found that it was still counted that kind of upset me since 2 or 3 people are relying on me to get julian for them and i bet if i had done that they certainly wouldn't have been happy.

TL;DR - auctions should end when they end. bids on or after the ending time should not be counted.

no ranting or anything, just my opinion. i think people should think carefully about how they place the end times because imo when you end an auction, you end it.

I think it's okay if they bid a minute just before the auction ended but there isn't really much that can be done. It's the sellers choice - sure it's a cruddy thing to do but they're in control of it.

That is a good point, I hate it as well when during auctions when people keep bidding even if someone met the buyout price; or if when they bid on the exact minute and the auctioner disregards the bid, they then start an argument. Im sorry on your cruddy luck and hope you can find Julian from a fair auction or exchange in the future. ^^

((ps. your profile pic is stunning ouo ))

That's why i'm heavily against villager auctions. Greed takes over very easily.

I hate when people do that. In fact, I've had that happen to me once and I've NEVER won an auction before. I'm just too broke from this website, I really am! XD If I ever make an auction, I'll make one of rules being: no bidding at the last minute, bids are only accepted 2 minutes before the auction ends. :)

I've never held an auction but personally last minute bidders don't bother me. Everyone bidding wants the villager just as much as the next person...it sucks to not win but there will always be another chance.
As for the whole auction ends at 8pm/7:59 thing...me, personally, if I ran an auction if I said it ended at 8pm then anything with a time stamp till 8:01 should count. But I think auctioneers should specify whether that's their intention or not since it's controversial.

I agree, but equally you shouldn't give the winners item to your friend instead either

Wouldn't people last minute bid two minutes before the auction ends?

I actually made a make-shift rule about this in my last auction but I never got to test it out. xD

Ending time is when I post this:
AUCTION HAS ENDED

All bid posts after my auction end post, unless buyout, will no longer be viable. I will announce the winner after a 5 min window for buyout offers.

This is mainly to avoid sniping. Sniping stresses me out. D8 It has happened once or twice in my auctions where people would bid at the same time I post the auction has ended, which creates confusion. (Though I doubt it will happen here since this is just Rudy, but you know. 8U Kinda wanna test this rule.)

The last time sniping has happened in my auction, the last bid was posted right before mine but at the same time I called a winner. The latest bidder then argued that their bid be considered, while the person I said was the winner backed out of the auction out of general niceness even though they already technically won. This creates a dilemma on who exactly should get (or in the words of some bidders "deserves") the auctioned item. In this scenario:

  • If the auctioneer accepts the latest bidder, they would look greedy.
  • If the auctioneer argues the previous person as the true winner, they would be called unfair by the latest bidder and potentially have another argument started.
  • Depending on how high the tension has gotten, this could spark a fight amongst bidders.

So... derp. In regards to reputation, people who hold auctions have like 80% risk of looking like the bad guy no matter what their circumstance.

Basically, this.

OMG yes yes yes yes I agree with you 1 billion percent! I had a a mini rant a couple of weeks ago about this very issue here: http://www.belltreeforums.com/showt...-Villager-Auctions-That-Needs-To-Be-Addressed!

Auction hosts need to CLEARLY specify when the auction actually ends otherwise don't even bother with it. Some hosts will just act shady and not tell you a specific end time and they will just end it whenever they see a lot of money.
