I really hope we get some sort of permanent tools.

I'm tired of breaking my shovel for the nth time trying to deal with my flower infestation or watering cans. I can stand the axes and nets and maybe fishing rods but not them.

And to think that gold tools are such a waste of gold ore (excluding gold watering can) since they still can break really boggles my mind. You can't even customise them so...they're more short lived than regular tools since you can just reset durability via custom kits. They don't even have a good trade-off use unlike in NL?

For example in New Leaf:
Gold axes had a high rate to produce fancy stump patterns.
Gold shovel increases fertilizer potency + can grow money trees.
Gold net has wider radius.
Fishing rod increases the response time and longer casting range.
Gold slingshot fires three shots instead of one.

None of the gold tools in NH is indestructible nor have any additional effect to justify their low durability (and expensive crafting requirement).

I really hope we get better tools than this. 🙁

I agree! I was disappointed when I found out that gold tools still break. I only plan on crafting each golden tool once and then I'm just going to continue making the normal tools since gold ore is harder to find. It's just not worth it otherwise.

Not to mention that the silver axes in NL were guaranteed to give you fancy stumps.

I was angry when I got the gold slingshot and it didn't fire 3 pellets at once, I was like: WHY?! What's the point of golden tools?

I'm hoping once we've reached a quota of breaking X amount of tools or if you've broken enough tools, they'll give you something like a diamond tool which won't break and that you can use for the rest of the game. Because constantly breaking my tools and having to either craft or buy them is getting a bit irritable for me.

The gold tools in this game are such a disappointment. I only made the effort to make the watering can, otherwise I just don't see myself making the other ones. :/

I wish they had perks other than Silver Tool tier of radius/durability. To think they have none makes me think I rather pass on them entirely.

I also wish there were at least permanent watering cans. I need three watering cans each day to water all my flowers. Ugh...

same; imagine my disappointment when i found out that even gold tools will break. kind of a stupid decision to make - what’s the point of the gold tools if they’ll break anyways, besides maybe being able to make gold roses?

I really am hoping this is a Greenland-Iceland situation where they mixed up gold and silver tools or something or maybe they're bringing diamond ones.

I feel you on that. I have to be conscious on my shovel use or else I get too carried away AND break it when I need it the most. I'm just carrying a DIY workbench, a custom kit and extra tools everywhere because I hate it so much lmaooo

And that's just ONE useful tool. You don't see any useful perks with the rest of the tools other than added radius or extra durability like bruh. All I do now is carry custom kits with my regular tools lol.

I need these so bad! My shovel breaks a lot since I move flowers a lot and am constantly digging holes to plan out building settings. It's come to the point that I'm too bothered to collect more resources to craft more shovels and I waste 2.5k bells on buying a new one from Nooks, multiple times a day 😭 I should really just buy some customization kits before I go broke

watering cans shouldnt break—like what watering can breaks when water pours from it
Probably due to rusting. Some watering cans are those tin(?)/metal ones (NH watering can looks like it) and they rust so maybe that's NH's logic.

I doubt that matters though, all you need is something that can hold water then it's a watering can regardless. 😡

im not particularly mad that they break as I think the system new leaf used for golden tools was a bit overpowered as well. With that said, losing a lot of the functionalities they had on top of the breaking feels like a bit of a slap in the face :(

I don't really expect indestructible tools to be forthcoming, as I have to assume that this was an intentional decision that the developers decided to make for...whatever reason it is that they thought it was a good idea. I would love for them to patch in indestructibility to the already existing golden tools or even introduce something new, but I just sort of doubt it.

Yeah, the golden tools suck. I craft them solely for the Nook Miles Achievement and the Watering Can for Gold Roses.

Something I got in the habit of doing is carrying around customization kits. When I think I used about half the durability I'll change the color to reset the durability to full.

I have some QoL quibbles like everyone, but tool durability is the one thing that truly impacts my enjoyment of the game.

Sometimes I want to get in that zen mode where I just fish forever or water all my flowers or raze and rebuild an area of the island and I have to replace tools like 10 times and it just gets annoying and makes me stop altogether after a while.

I think it's fine in the beginning when you have the whole deserted island thing going on, but by the time you unlock terraforming, it makes no sense that you can literally manipulate earth and water like some kind of god and yet somehow you can't keep a dang shovel from breaking.

You need to help Gulliver 30 times before he'll give you a golden shovel DIY, you need to break 100 axes to eventually get the DIY for a golden axe, you need to catch all 80 bugs before you get the DIY for a golden net, you need to catch 80 fish before you'll get the DIY for a golden rod, shoot down I don't know how many balloons to get a DIY for a golden slingshot, and a 5 star rating for a golden watering can DIY.

I'm not complaining. But I would think that through all your hard work that these items would be unbreakable. Especially since golden nuggets are very rare to come by. I'm just trying to make sense of why they'd make these tools still breakable. I understand the reason behind having breakable tools in general, because you collect stuff and handcraft them basically. And I know it's pretty much the same thing with the golden tools. Still, it doesn't seem like a reward for your efforts. It just seems like a different color palette.

Dude, yess! It's so frustrating because I have to count how many uses I have made on each tool, which gets annoying with keeping track and whatnot so that I get as much use out of them as possible. Also, If I wanted to water every flower on my island, it takes like 5-6+ watering cans :/ Which is so irritating. I normally just use about one can in order to water what I need the most watered, but counting how many times I use each tool is frustrating. And as others have stated, this is a huge step back from NL where gold tools had better specs and didn't break. For crying out loud, the basic tools never broke. I get that tools are meant to part of the diy process, but watering my flowers takes so much time, and if it rains and I get lots of new flower spawns, then I have to go and dig them all up, using roughly 1-2+ shovels. I feel like I've just lost motivation in keeping up with my flowers because of this :/

I wolud also like to add that the golden tools don't give you much more durability. You get like 2 regular shovels out of one golden one :[

I'm very disappointed with Nintendo decision. Gold tools are no longer special like older AC games. Gold tools should be a one time thing with no recipes. When I unlocked the gold axe I went to my 2nd island. Dropped it on the ground and Main player there picked up the gold axe. The blue light went off and she got the gold axe miles. She never earned it.

I wish the mystery island had rental tools like ACNL. Go with an empty pocket and have a basket to place items you want to take home.
If someone does an interview I hope they ask why there are breakable tools. I need to know the answer.

I wouldn't count on it. I think I wrote this on a different thread earlier today, but it seems like the reason why tools break is to force you to use the DIY mechanic on a regular basis. I personally think that it is fine for regular tools to break, but golden tools breaking seems kind of a confusing decision to me. It moots the whole point of getting golden tools in the first place; it looks even weirder when you consider that the golden axe was supposed to be a tool that never broke in previous games, unlike the regular axe.
