I always think about getting cozy and just making my town look pretty, but as soon as I sit down to do it, it sounds like a very, very hard task and then I don't want to do it. Does anyone have any advice or ideas for placing paths?

What a lot of people like to do is place paths connecting the major areas of their town! Maybe plan out the main landmarks of your town (e.g. a zen garden area, town hall, stonehenge, police station, etc.) and connect them all together using one main path, and have smaller path branching off it leading to some more secluded landmarks (e.g. mayor's house, picnic basket, etc.).

In my town there are 4 main roads come out from the town plaza that lead to all my villager houses and important pwps like the lighthouse and cafe!

You should experiment with lots of different layouts by digging holes where you want your path to go, so if you change your mind it'll be a lot easier to erase :)

Good luck!

Honestly, my method of placing paths is probably way too much work. I made a copy of my town in paint on a grid so I could use the little squares to fill in all the things I wanted and where- including my paths. But I think if you just figure out where you naturally seem to walk/run to get to where you want to go and place paths based on that, it'd be pretty simple and fast. You could also take a screen shot of your map, pull it up into a program like paint, and just draw a line where you think you'd like to place your path, which could help visualize it a bit. c:

Placing a certain arrangement of paths is quite time consuming, but it's worth it. There are a lot of different ways to do paths. For example, you could blanket your entire town or half of it with different paths..and the pros are an amazing original town along with the feeling of price and accomplishment once you finish. Also- you'll have a lot less problems with weeds. (I did this once, it took approximately two hours or less, but if you watch a movie you've already seen (mean girls, for example. I've seen it so many times but I'm never tired of hearing the audio of the movie) to keep your mind occupied, or listen to music. There are a lot of cons to this though :/ like less flowers growing around, the inability to shake fruit off trees (unless you remove the paths then redo them when you're done), hitting rocks for coins, finding fossils, etc) but this problem can easily be lightened by just doing this for half your town. The second option is just finding cute paths (specifically in rows of two or three). You can find some really cute qr codes for paths on tumblr and pinterest.

You can either use these paths to connect "special" parts of your town like the coffee shop, town hall, re-tail and train station, or you can connect all the houses together. Of course, you'd have to remove the paths if the villager leaves, but it'll just take a quick minute to remove that one path branch. What I did for my town was I set a fairy tale theme, meaning my town hall is fairy tale, my house exterior, and soon enough, my train station. I didn't want my paths to look out of place, so I went through tumblr and found cute fairy tale paths to go with it all (more like an alice in wonderland theme for the paths, but the general colors still match). Then I just added a line of bushes and flowers along the paths to outline them and add accent.

(Tip : If you choose to use bushes to outline your paths, place a flower every two bushes. The mechanic of the game is you can't place a certain amount of bushes in a row. It's to prevent the mischief of trapping other people, but the flowers shouldn't make a difference in how they look. If anything, they're more of an advantage. Instead of walking around the bushes to get through, you can just walk through the flowers)

It's not exactly a hard task either, it just takes up a lot of time. As I mentioned though, you can make use of the time by also re-watching old youtube videos or movies. I guarantee you won't regret the time you used on placing the paths though. Just experiment a little with the bushes and paths together. From my opinion, paths just seem naked without bushes to outline them. I hope this helped 0u0

I never had trouble placing paths or decorating, but my fifth town is another story. I got so tired of trying to figure out where to place them in certain areas that I haven't played for two days. The rocks and houses are in the way. I won't reset, so I just have to deal with it. So far it's looking kind of strange, but it's definately unique.

As others have said, it takes a while to place paths. Someone mentioned digging holes where you think a path might look good. I do this a lot. Sometimes I use extra flowers laying around town to help get an idea of where to place them.

It is a lot of boring work to put paths down on the whole town, but that's really only if you decide to do it all at once. What I do is put down a simple, repeating tile in one small area of my town, not even every day. Soon I have a bunch of roads. And when you're running over your paths every time you play, you start coming up with ideas to change them. Slowly they improve, and eventually you realize you now have some damn pretty paths! Try not to take it too seriously. Experimenting is fun, everything you do is changeable, and there's always more trees/bushes/etc.

I find my problem with path related things is usually either -
i don't know where to put them because i didnt landscape enough/at all
i also didnt have any one path i really loved due to either something like sizing problems or if it didnt have inner corners or something >.< I'm too picky
bottom line- if u have the same problems then u need to landscape and pick a path that fits all your criteria :p stuff like that always discouraged me but i did a pretty good job of path laying in one of my old towns.
