i tried to follow a tutorial to get new colours, but it didnt work...

how do yall do it?

It'll work, it'll just take time because of the chance % but it'll work :D you can invite 5 people over to increase the reproduction rate by a whole lot

Patience is key! When a guide says, for instance, that a red hyacinth and a yellow hyacinth have a 100% to produce an orange hyacinth it doesn't mean they will produce an orange 100% of the time, it means that when they breed, the offspring has a 100% chance of being orange. But they're not 100% guaranteed to breed. Does that make sense?

It also helps to have multiple pairs together so you increase the chances. What are you trying to breed?

Which flowers are you trying to cross breed? We could answer better if we had more information. Like what species you’re trying to breed, What color you’re trying to get, what kind of set up you have (what shape they are planted in, a picture might help), if you have other people watering, stuff like that.

As a more basic starting point - take two colours of the same species - ie. a red lily and a yellow lily, plant them next to each other (touching, can also be diagonal) and water them. They may or may not reproduce the next day. If not, keep watering them, and eventually you'll get an orange hybrid. You can lay out grid patterns of the colours you want to breed once you know what you're aiming for - I recommend googling to see pictures of layouts.

If you want I could come help you set up a breeding area sometime. Also are you looking for the other flower seeds (cause I could give you some). Or I could draw you a picture if you’d rather set it up yourself.

It takes a lot of time and patience but you'll get them! If you have friends who are willing to water flowers for you, you can ask them to help you!
