I Need Help Placing My House

I have a second copy of ACNL and I decided to start my new town tonight rather than waiting later on and never actually doing it. I found a map that I feel comfortable with. The only issue I'm having is that I'm unsure where to place my house. Any suggestions? I made this ugly map in a hurry to give you an idea of what my map looks like since I can't actually take a picture of it.

The grey is stone floor, the purple is the town hall, the pink is Re-Tail, the other pink in the top is the train station, and the red are houses. If you must know, I have Pierce, Velma, Barold, Knox and Truffles. Anyway, where should I place my house?

Well...this is totally subjective, but I would place my house to the left of Retail. I use tiles for pathways, and linking from Re-Tail to my house and also being able to connect a common pathway to the Plaza is a plus in my eyes. Also, you will be close to the longest fishing beach area, being so close to that ramp. Just my thoughts!

I was hesitant to place it there even after you mentioned it. You're absolutely correct, though. It aligns perfectly to the ramp that goes down the beach and the Re-Tail. When I leave the house, I can go to the right, make a left and go straight that way, etc. etc. Cool! Thanks for helping me.

You're welcome! Whether you place your house there or not is up to you, of course, because you have to live with it forever. In the long run I think you'll like it.

On the other hand, if you choose another place, please post here again and say where and why. I really like to know how people choose where to place their houses and why. Sometimes I pick up great tips I wouldn't have thought of otherwise.

I circled some potential areas in pink that I would consider putting a house. But I tend to like my house nestled into corners and along cliffsides, so it may just be me.

It may not be just you! I see the reasons why you would choose such areas. I do for my secondary characters. I tend to nestle them also where I want a future bridge and get just close enough so that another villager cannot plot there yet just far enough that Isabelle won't refuse to allow me to put my bridge there because I "basically need a lot of space."

I tend to like my Mayor to be connected to the Plaza, Town Hall, and Re-Tail if possible, but any other character...anything goes! If I don't have any other characters (unlikely because I need lots of tile spaces) then at least I have the connectivity I like and have it not be weird.

If I didn't lay paths I wouldn't care. Still, other people have other ideas and all are equally valid. One reason I LOVE this game!
