Why does anyone want rotten fruit?

When a villager, you dont like/want, asks you for a fruit and you hand them rotten fruit, they'll get extremely mad -after eating it. And a jingle will sound. If I'm right this'll mean that the villager will build distaste towards you, and HOPEFULLY will move out sooner. But it's just a theory.

A "jingle"? Interesting. I accidentally gave Victoria a rotten fruit once (she's one of my favorites too, heh... oopsie) and I don't recall hearing a jingle. She just stomped around with steam coming out of her ears for a bit. XD tbh villagers appear to move out if you're friends with them to some degree. Also, according to this, they "quickly forget" rotten fruit offenses anyway.
