Well elaborate on how you missed him. He doesn't come every night, and he comes almost every other week, except when you found the lamp. (Empty lamp, looks like a genie lamp) Give it to wisp on a random night (Hours unknown due to multiple reports of different times such as 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM)
and he will enchant it. Once it becomes a magic lamp go to the attic and rub it. He will come, and remove your weed or stomp your bugs, or give you a random uncatalogued item. (Choose a type such as hat, accessories ect.)

Yeah I know what to do when you find him but I found the lamp today and according to wikipedia you must see him on the night you get the lamp is this wrong or is the lamp I have now useless.
