ok so today i went out on a boat for fathers day and i took my 3ds. ( you are probably thinking bad idea, i realize that lol) i did not even use it but it was in the glove box of the boat. Well it was working fine on the way down there, but when i got back into the car i turned on my 3ds and i got an error message, i turned the power on and off a few times, and still nothing. So i started freaking out, i was already suffering new leaf withdrawls and the thought of possibly losing everything. I got home and i was desperate for fixes so I thought maybe somehow water got in it so i was going to put my 3ds in a bowl of rice ( rice draws out moisture, thats why it is in some salt shakers :) ( I was like 99% sure there wasn't but at this point I was going to try anything). So i just barely placed it in the rice and not even all the way I realized ~wait, couldn't the rice get stuck in the card slot~ :p derp.... well a piece did so now I had two problems XD. i eventually got the piece of rice out after about 5 minutes of shaking, and I just told myself I was gonna walk away, I put it on the charger. I took a shower and came out and now it seems to be working fine. XD I have now realized that the boat is a bad omen towards my 3ds so it will not ever come in contact with my 3ds again.. anyway sorry this is such a long post. I just had to vent XD

You should edit your title, friend. Heart attacks are no joking conversational piece. Glad that you're really okay; while a sound method, however, rice alone will not do it- I would def. find a hair blower or if you have a car available, turn the temp to low heat & direct it towards where you suspect water's present. Do this several times a day for a few days. If your electric device is 99% dry, all it takes is that 1% to short it w/ water/moisture around.

I know right, I seriously thought that this was a serious thing. Also, maybe the headphone jack could be full of rice too.

What on earth has a heart attack got to do with this story? Honestly...I was really worried for a second! Personally I really don't understand why you would take your 3DS on a boat trip anyway, especially if you know it's going to get wet. Obviously water will damage a console so it's not rocket science.

But I'm pleased that you managed to fix your 3DS :)

This could have something to do with changes in temperature, condensation etc.
If it's in the glove box of a boat I would expect that it would indeed be quite chilly, did you head out to sea on the boat? The air at sea is often quite thick and misty and of course this is where possible moisture could come from even if you think it's safely tucked away! It probably just needed a good warm up. :)

i hope you guys know "having a heart attack" is quite a common phrase used when someone feels panic or freaks out jfc

calm yo' butts

Wow, people should indeed take a chill pill.
sarcasm generally doesn't travel well but you should also take most things you read on the internet with a pinch of salt, why would anyone's first step in action after suffering a heart attack be to come here?

Why would you assume the worst

We're on TBT

it's a forum with the age bracket of like 14-24 (give or take)

I don't see many young folk going into cardiac arrest

It's also posted in the gamers lounge. i would have thought that would also be a giant clue.

It's good that you've got your 3DS back and working, however it's a little over the top for a thread.
