The title says it all. I got the game on launch day, played up to the Bunny Day Holiday and then quit out of frustration with what the series had become. My main complaints, at the time, were with the furniture selection being absolute garbage compared to previous installments, the crafting mechanic being clunky, un-intuitive and quite frankly flat out annoying being forced to put up with just to progress (it made the game FAR too "grindy"), and the utter lack of iconic NPCs and features. While I was already disappointed with having dropped $60 on what essentially felt like a bad knock-off of an actual AC game, the tedious and intrusive Bunny Day Holiday caused me to cave in, quit the game, and ultimately, leave the Animal Crossing series as a whole behind.

I have recently considered getting back into the game. That being said, I have stayed completely out of the Animal Crossing world since then and I am completely oblivious to anything that's happened/changed within these past five months. Please update me on everything that has happened in that time! Have things gotten better, or are the same old problems still persistent?

I look forward to hearing from you guys - thanks!

You missed the firework shows, where you got the bopper head gear, and balloons, tweeters and such from Redd's raffle. Before that Redd was announced to sell art, plus diving with Pascal giving you the mermaid set with diys. Can't think of much else.

In addition to what Reginald said,
Leif was added in as an npc, rover came back for a quick May Day event maze, Reese & Cyrus was back for a wedding event (wedding items), gullivarrr was also added in as a npc for pirate furniture

you also missed some fishing tourneys and bug offs

Stuff that got added:

- Redd was added as a possible visitor, along with an art wing to the museum
- Reese and Cyrus via the June wedding event (lasts the whole month). This added a bunch of wedding items.
- Rover via the May Day event (May 1-5). This just added a single item (Rover's suitcase)
- Leif is now a possible visitor and he sells bushes, as well as flower types that Nook store doesn't stock. He also gives you a hedge fence DIY
- Gullivarr (pirate version of Gulliver) is now a possible visitor. He doesn't replace regular Gulliver. He gives new pirate items.
- Redd and the Sundays in August fireworks shows, where you can get boppers from Isabelle and fireworks/balloons/etc from Redd
- Diving is now a thing. You can collect seafood and donate them to the museum, where they are added to the fish section. Pascal shows up the first time you find a scallop each day and can give you mermaid set DIYs, mermaid clothes, or pearls (which you need for the mermaid set)
- There's a minor Museum Day event that lasts a week or two that you can get 3 plaques from
- Some orderable from the Nook shopping app items were added that are time limited.

Saharah's dialog was SLIGHTLY improved when buying from her. But otherwise there has been no quality of life upgrades. You still have to put up with nonsense like crafting fish bait one at a time and such. As you can see, new items were added, but it hasn't been very much.

I was in the same boat as you until the summer update was announced. The new nautical furniture made me try and create a house in game, and it’s grown on me to become the best house I’ve ever created. The furniture selection ended up making me more creative, but I was lucky it’s my taste. I’m currently trying to keep the motivation to play up so I can finish this beautiful museum, but my island decorating attempts have been terrible lol

Oh, another thing I forgot to mention - Luna and dreaming is back. The Dream Suite doesn't exist. Instead you lay on any bed and you get the prompt.

Hey, same hat! (Well, I just went back to play older AC games instead of dropping it, and I booted up NH to play with friends a couple times during the summer)

I don't think that enough has changed for you to like it now. The furniture is still lacking and the crafting/foraging mechanics are still super repetitive. There has been new content added but no quality of life upgrades.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the game and by all means try to get back into it if that appeals to you. I just can recognize that people play the games for different reasons and what you play for really determines what you think of this title. I also really hate the crafting system and believe that it will eventually be the thing that makes the game unplayable for me.

Collecting each furniture series and set, and the fully expanded Nook's store was a huge draw for me in the old games, and that aspect is greatly diminished in this game. I am much more of a collector than a designer. On the other hand, this is by far the best game in the series for clothing and character customization.

Yeah, the unintuitive and annoying crafting system is my main frustration with the game. If they hadn't included it in the game/had fixed it, I could easily look over the other complaints. I was holding onto hope that they had completely redone the crafting system in the time since I left, but I see it's not so. I think I am going to try to get back into the game, but I don't know if I will stick with it if it still feels like a tedious and unenjoyable chore (with the over-extensive amount of grinding that is required) like it did back when I was playing in March and April.

I am glad to hear about some of that stuff, like bushes and diving being added! Disappointing to see that the clunky and super-grindy crafting system, the main reason I quit, hasn't been improved. :( I guess I'll give the game a second chance, but I am honestly doubtful I will stick with it seeing that the same old problems that I had the first time around are still there.

I honestly don't think the crafting system is that bad once you progress in the game a bit because it becomes optional for the most part. I enjoy crafting but only need to craft every 2-3 days and that's because I craft tools, but you can just buy them from the Nooks instead. Plus, if there's items you really want that need to be crafted, there's always people offering crafting services or selling the materials if you don't like gathering them.

Most of the game feels really similar to NL and I think it'll be even more complete with upcoming updates.

I would have thought that collecting was expanded in NH because so many items have multiple variations!

I will say that nothing so far has felt as annoying as Bunny Day. I never found Bunny Day fun, not even for a second. I'm not a fan of pastel things in general and I find the vast majority of the items extremely ugly. The wedding event was fun at first at least, and the items are good. It just got old because of having to do it for a few minutes daily and you were doing the same things over and over. It was grindy to get enough heart crystals to buy at least 1 of everything (and now I have regrets that I didn't grind more... I want more candles, argh!) but at least the wedding event happened on Harv's island. It wasn't constantly in your face like Bunny Day and those stupid eggs everywhere.

Honestly, the overstaying the welcome thing has been an issue for every single holiday.

No AC game has had as much outdoor and clothing related customization as NH. If either or both of those things are exciting to you, it's probably worth putting up with the annoying things. I mostly play for the outdoor customization part myself.

NL is still better for interior customization though, just because of the sheer amount of furniture and such available. NL's holidays are also much more enjoyable overall too - at least the main holidays. Not talking about the boring holidays that are just a photo cutout and Isabelle giving you an item. NH can manage to beat those. But that's not saying much.
