I have no town theme? Do I need one?

I saw you mentioned a pastel theme - that isn't really a theme, just a colour scheme. If you like blue, for example, you can have blue flowers (and maybe villagers as well).
Most people don't have a theme, you just hear about people with themes more often because it's something worth mentioning, while somebody without a theme won't just stand up and say: "I have no theme." If you have a theme, you're likely to mention it in a lot of threads about towns because it explains your town situation.
I wouldn't say you need a theme, I think your town can be less accessible to some people if you do, actually. (Say you don't like a series; then a town about those series won't be very interesting to you) About colour schemes (mainly for flowers, but also trees and bushes), I think it can be useful if you find it hard to think of new combinations for each area. By choosing only four or less colours, it can be easier to decorate your town because you know what you're going to use. I think people have those 'themes' just because it's easier and you've got less to decide about.

Honestly, most people don't have a theme for their town. I personally people without themes have an advantage because you aren't limited to villagers and you have so much free will. You can replace a villager anytime you want while themed towns generally stick to their selective 10. You also wouldn't have to make paths specific to that theme where you can have whatever path that suits your fancy. If themed towns have extra characters, they generally have to suit the town theme or it'll seem too random and wouldn't make sense. I also noticed a lot of themed towns have custom outfits for villagers which could be used for other patterns in a non themed town. You can also change up the look of your town anytime you want. While that's still true for theme towns, you are limited to what you can do it.

Overall, do whatever makes you happy. As long as you're okay with your town the way it is, that's all that matters. :D

Yeah its really up to you if you want a town theme or not, of course your happiness is the most important!

However, I appreciate towns that do have a theme because it is more aesthetically pleasing in my opinion and I do believe it requires more work. I also think towns that do have a theme stand out more and tend to be more unique.

It's not impossible to make a town follow a theme, it just means you have create qr patterns through the machine and place it in your house furniture and paths. I have seen a mario kart themed town and it was awesome. I also saw a alice in the wonderland themed town. The player made an awesome card deck path, clothes for villagers, arrange all flowers to make a shape to represent alice in the wonderland (ie the face of the chesire cat) etc Theres also a candyland themed town, cat town etc

Yeah I am a fan of themed towns :p
