I have an underdeveloped town

I recently figured out how to place actual paths in my town and have been trying to decide how I want to develop my town. My town map doesn't really inspire any ideas. My house is just off on a cliff to the right by it's self. I am really starting to wish I had a better map for my town but I've had my town for 6 months and don't want to reset on the slim chance on finding a map that speaks to me. (Plus I have a couple villagers I love and 150 hours in this town)

Anyways how did you guys build up your towns and do you have any suggestions for me? I don't know how to post a picture from my 3DS here. I see people do it all the time but I don't know how to do it.

I made a dream address of 5700-3904-7498 if you want to run around and poke my barren town (the orange orchard was my desperate and failed attempt to get any perfect orange and will go)

I've never really developed my town so never felt the need to do this, the address is now 5700-3904-7498

I recently began cutting down all my trees so I could plant ones where I wanted them, and tried growing a bunch to get perfect oranges, but no luck. I just need an idea of something to really work towards. But my map just doesn't speak to me

For me, building my town was pretty much trial and error. Just start building it and you'll be able to see more clearly what works in your town and what doesn't. Visiting popular dream addresses really helps with inspiration. My first steps were chopping down all my trees and then laying down my paths

I agree it helps to visit developed dream addresses and see how they placed their paths and PWPs. really study it and then think about what you'd like best in your town. Is there a large qr path town square down from the train station or town hall? Do you want to cover your town tree in qr paths or leave it bare…? do you want to put trees or bushes around it? What main paths do you want, where do you go to and fro the most…? Like for me I have a path from the beach to my house to retail, etc.

A lot of folks do some sort of public work with bushes, flowers and/or trees places appropriately around it in front of town hall and I think that looks nice. If you have a large blank area that doesn't have too many houses you can plan almost any pwp. a public garden… whatever you like.
